“I feel like I'm getting better, serving better, getting used to these conditions...”

Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka are making waves at the Miami Open, securing convincing wins and keeping their “Sunshine Double hopes alive. Meanwhile, defending men's champion Jakub Mensik was knocked out, joining other seeds who crashed out early.

Sinner and Sabalenka are on a roll after their Indian Wells victories, aiming to become part of an elite group that has won both Indian Wells and Miami Open back-to-back. Sabalenka, the defending champion, defeated Ann Li and Caty McNally, advancing to the quarterfinals, while Sinner beat Corentin Moutet and is looking strong.

Jannik Sinner cruised to the last 16 in Miami, beating Corentin Moutet 6-1, 6-4, chasing a second title after winning in 2024. Sinner's next up is unseeded American Alex Michelsen, who edged out Alejandro Tabilo 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

World number one Aryna Sabalenka, the defending Miami Open champion, cruised into the quarter-finals with a straightforward 6-3, 6-4 victory over China’s 2024 Olympic gold medallist Zheng Qinwen.

Sabalenka is now aiming to become only the fifth woman in history to complete the prestigious Indian Wells-Miami double, following in the footsteps of Steffi Graf, Kim Clijsters, Victoria Azarenka, and Iga Świątek

Aryna Sabalenka's looking unstoppable in Miami, cruising past Zheng Qinwen in 1hr 25min. Her powerful game is on point, and she's a force to be reckoned with in the “Sunshine Double” chase.

Baptiste joined other American women in the Miami Open quarterfinals.

“She's a tough opponent and I'm super happy with the level I played at today,” Sabalenka said in her on-court interview. “I can definitely say that it felt like home.

“I feel like I'm getting better, serving better, getting used to these conditions, which are tricky. But I'm getting more and more comfortable with every match,” added Sabalenka, who faces unseeded American Hailey Baptiste in the quarter-finals.

Defending Champion Jakub Mensik Knocked Out of Miami Open by Frances Tiafoe

Jakub Mensik's Miami Open title defense ended abruptly as he lost to 19th seed Frances Tiafoe 7-6 (4), 4-6, 7-6 (11) in a thrilling three-set match. The Czech 20-year-old saved six match points before ultimately succumbing to Tiafoe's seventh match point. Daniil Medvedev also exited the tournament, losing to Francisco Cerundolo 6-0, 4-6, 7-5.

The match was a 2hr 55min third-round slug-fest in searing late afternoon heat, decided by a marathon third-set tiebreak. Czech 20-year-old Mensik saved six match points before finally succumbing at the Hard Rock Stadium.

US hope Tiafoe, who himself saved two match points in the final tiebreak, sealed victory after converting his seventh match point when a Mensik return of serve drifted wide.

Tiafoe's next up is France's Terence Atmane in the last 16. Atmane's on a roll, upsetting Canadian seventh seed Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 to book his spot.

Auger-Aliassime's exit adds to the list of seeds who've fallen early in Miami, including Daniil Medvedev, who lost 6-0, 4-6, 7-5 to Francisco Cerundolo.

Daniil Medvedev seemed headed for a quick exit after Francisco Cerundolo blitzed through the first set in just over 20 minutes, winning 6-0. However, Medvedev mounted a strong comeback in the second set, leveling the match 1-1.

The deciding set was intense, with both players trading blows. Cerundolo took a 6-5 lead and sealed the win when Medvedev double-faulted on match point, handing Cerundolo a 6-0, 4-6, 7-5 victory.

“It was a great match, super tough,” Cerundolo said. “It was my first match against Daniil. He's probably one of the only guys on Tour who I have never played.

“I didn't know what to expect. He has had a great year so far, so I didn't expect to be up 6-0 in the first set and a break up in the second. He started playing super good. But I kept believing and stayed there in the match.”

Seedings Tumble in Miami as Medvedev, Alcaraz Exit

Medvedev's exit followed big-name losses, including world number one Carlos Alcaraz, Alex De Minaur, and Ben Shelton. Meanwhile, Ugo Humbert progressed, beating Alexander Shevchenko 6-4, 7-6 (7/2).

Gauff Survives Scare, Advances to Quarters

Coco Gauff needed a comeback win against Sorana Cirstea, prevailing 6-4, 3-6, 6-2. Gauff looked in control after taking the opener and leading 3-1 in the second, but Cirstea pushed her to the limit.

Cirstea seized momentum from Gauff's waky spell, winning the second set 6-3 with five straight games, forcing a decider. Gauff bounced back strong, racing to 3-0 in the third. Play was halted briefly for a spectator's medical issue, but Gauff cruised to victory after, breaking Cirstea twice more to win in 2:03 hours.

“I think overall I'm most proud of just mentally staying in there,” Gauff said.

Gauff explained, “As the match got longer I was able to raise my level.” She's in the quarters, where she'll face either Amanda Anisimova or Belinda Bencic.

Karolina Muchova cruised into the quarters, demolishing Alexandra Eala 6-0, 6-2 in just an hour. Meanwhile, unseeded Hailey Baptiste's on fire, beating Jelena Ostapenko 6-3, 6-4 with 11 aces.
