Jannik Sinner made history by winning his first Indian Wells ATP Masters 1000 title, defeating Daniil Medvedev 7-6 (8/6), 7-6 (7/4) in a thrilling final. The world number two showed incredible resilience, rallying from 0-4 down in the second-set tiebreaker to secure the victory.

Sinner, a four-time Grand Slam champion, claimed his first title of 2026, ending Medvedev's nine-match ATP winning streak. Medvedev, who won the title in Dubai last month, was on a roll, having upset Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinals. However, Sinner's impressive performance, including 43 points won on his first serve, proved too strong for the Russian.

Daniil Medvedev handed Carlos Alcaraz his first loss of the season, ending the top-ranked Spaniard's 16-match winning streak in an upset semi-final triumph at Indian Wells. Medvedev won 6-3, 7-6(3), setting up a final against Jannik Sinner, who didn't drop a set in the tournament.

Sinner, who proved just that bit better, had a thrilling match against Alexander Zverev, winning 6-2, 6-4. The match featured no breaks of serve in either set, with both sets going to tiebreakers, showcasing Sinner's exceptional skills.

“I kept believing and kept pushing,” Sinner said of his closing burst. “I went for my shots a little more. A third set, we would have started even, so I tried my best to close it out and I am very happy.

“It was an incredible ending.”

Jannik Sinner dominated on serve, not facing a single break point in the one-hour, 55-minute match, and winning an impressive 43 of 47 points on his first serve. His serving prowess was too much for Daniil Medvedev, who saved two break points in the seventh game of the opening set but ultimately fell short.

In the first-set tiebreaker, Medvedev was up 5-4 but let a crucial point slip away when a ball landed in, allowing Sinner to seize the momentum. Sinner's tiebreaker skills proved too much for Medvedev, and he took the set with a thundering service winner.

Jannik Sinner's incredible forehand gave him another chance, and he seized it with a thundering service winner, taking the first set. Medvedev had looked poised to level the match, racing to a 4-0 lead in the second-set tiebreaker, helped by Sinner's second double-fault of the match.

However, Sinner mounted an incredible comeback, winning seven consecutive points to overturn the deficit and secure the set 7-6 (7/4). This victory marked Sinner's first Indian Wells title and made him the third player to win all six ATP Masters 1000 hard-court titles, joining Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer.

Jannik Sinner made history by winning his first Indian Wells title, defeating Daniil Medvedev 7-6(6), 7-6(4) and joining Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer as the only players to win all six ATP Masters 1000 hard-court titles. This victory marks Sinner's sixth Masters 1000 title, completing his set of hard-court trophies.

Medvedev, who had ended Carlos Alcaraz's 16-match winning streak in the semifinals, missed his chance to become the second player to beat both Alcaraz and Sinner in the same tournament. Despite the loss, Medvedev's performance underscores his return to form after a disappointing 2025 campaign, and he'll return to the top 10 in the ATP rankings on Monday.
