Senegal seeks to overturn decision that awarded Morocco 3-0 win in Africa Cup of Nations final after team walked off pitch in protest...

The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has officially appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against the decision to strip them of their Africa Cup of Nations title. This comes after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) ruled that Senegal forfeited the final against Morocco due to their walk-off protest during the game in Rabat on January 18.

Senegal had initially won the match 1-0, but CAF's Appeal Board overturned the result, awarding Morocco a 3-0 victory. The FSF is seeking to have this decision set aside and be declared the rightful winners of the tournament.

Senegal's Africa Cup of Nations title has been stripped and awarded to Morocco after a 3-0 victory was ruled in their favor by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) appeal board. This decision overturns the original 1-0 win for Senegal in extra time, following a 14-minute walk-off by the Senegalese team in protest of a late penalty awarded to Morocco.

The controversy stems from the January 18 final, where Senegal walked off the pitch after a penalty was awarded to Morocco, but returned to win the match. CAF cited Articles 82 and 84 of the tournament regulations, stating Senegal's actions constituted a forfeit, resulting in Morocco being declared winners.

Senegal has appealed the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), with their football federation describing the ruling as “unfair, unprecedented, and unacceptable.”

“The FSF appeal seeks to set aside the CAF decision and declare the FSF ‌winners of AFCON. It also requests an immediate suspension of the time limit to submit an appeal brief until the CAF decision is notified with full grounds,” the CAS said in a statement.

“A CAS Arbitral Panel will be appointed ‌to consider this matter. Following this, a procedural calendar will ‌be established.”

The Senegalese government is getting involved, calling for an inquiry into the title removal. The FSF's lawyers are set to address a press conference in Paris tomorrow, likely to shed more light on their appeal strategy.

This adds more drama to an already intense situation.
