Salah Shines: 50th Champions League Goal
Liverpool's Mohamed Salah becomes first African player to score 50 Champions League goals, reaches 200+ goal involvements for Reds.
“It says a lot about him that after missing a penalty just before half-time (to score that goal)...”
Mohamed Salah achieved two major milestones in Liverpool's 4-0 thrashing of Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League. The Egyptian star scored a goal and provided an assist, helping the Reds overcome a deficit and secure a quarter-final showdown with Paris Saint-Germain.
Salah's performance was particularly impressive, as he bounced back from a first-half penalty miss to score his 50th Champions League goal and provide an assist for Hugo Ekitike's goal. This milestone makes Salah the first African player to reach 50 goals in the competition. Liverpool's manager, Arne Slot, praised Salah's mental strength, saying, “It says a lot about Mo's mentality that he missed a penalty which was a difficult moment, but then he came back and gave a great assist to Hugo, and the goal he scored was trademark.”
After seeing a first-half penalty saved by Ugurcan Cakır, Salah bounced back to score Liverpool’s fourth just after the hour mark.
That strike saw him become the first African player to reach 50 goals in Champions League history.
Salah's 50 Champions League goals include 47 for Liverpool, one for Roma, and two for Basel. The night was special for another reason: he reached 200+ goal involvements for Liverpool, with 140 goals and 61 assists in just 211 appearances.
“It says a lot about him that after missing a penalty just before half-time (to score that goal),” said Slot.
"That can sometimes be hard for an individual or for a team, so compliment to the team for how we came out in the second half because we've had a lot of setbacks this season. We've had a lot of first or second halves where we've created chance after chance after chance without doing justice to how we've performed, so not scoring.”

“Then, Mo and the team came out in the second half the way they did. He assisted first to Hugo, a great assist, and then scored a trademark goal, which he scored many of in this stadium and for this club, coming inside and finding the top corner.
“That tells you about the mental strength of him, but definitely also of the team, because adversity is something we can talk about when it comes to this season.”
Salah is likely to be fit for Liverpool's Premier League clash with Brighton on Saturday, barring any serious injury. The Egyptian star is expected to lead the Reds' attack after his impressive Champions League display.
