Guler's spectacular goal helps Real close gap with Barcelona at top of LaLiga...
Real Madrid extended their unbeaten streak to 20 games, maintaining their perfect record when scoring first in LaLiga this season, with a 4-1 win over Elche at the Bernabeu. This victory brings them within a point of league leaders Barcelona.
The hosts dominated the first half, with Elche managing only one shot on goal. Antonio Rudiger opened the scoring with a volley, followed by Federico Valverde's stunning strike from outside the box. Dean Huijsen added a header before Arda Guler sealed the win with an incredible goal from his own half.
Aurelien Tchouameni tested his luck from range early on, skewing his effort wide, before Antonio Rudiger headed over.
The defender would do much better with his feet with his next attempt though, as he emphatically volleyed Los Blancos in front as the ball dropped invitingly for him following a free-kick.
Federico Valverde scored a stunning goal to double Real's lead before halftime, showcasing his class with a beautiful finish. He collected Fran García's cross and curled the ball into the top corner from the edge of the box.
This goal highlighted the massive difference in quality between the two teams, making it likely Real would extend their unbeaten record against Elche and maintain their winning streak.
The hosts aimed to put the game beyond all doubt early in the second half, and Brahim Diaz almost did that as his strike flew inches over.
However, Elche were hardly threatening, and so Alvaro Arbeloa decided to take goalscorers Valverde and Rudiger off among other key players, with the crucial second leg against City next in mind.
Dean Huijsen stayed on and grabbed Real's third, heading home Daniel Yanez's cross. Yanez, 18, was making just his second senior appearance for the club.

Elche's chances of a comeback were slim, but they got a consolation goal when Manuel Angel diverted a cutback into his own net. Real had chances to add more, with Gonzalo Garcia's breakaway effort blocked by Matias Dituro.
The goals weren't over yet! Arda Guler seized on a Dituro mistake, lobbing the keeper from distance to wrap up the win.
This win keeps Real Madrid hot at home, ending a streak of point drops in successive league matches. Now, all eyes are on Barcelona as they host Sevilla tomorrow. Meanwhile, Elche remains stuck above the relegation zone after 11 games without a win (D4, L7).
