Wayne Rooney thinks Max Dowman should soak up the moment after becoming the youngest Premier League goalscorer. Dowman, just 16 years and 73 days old, scored a thrilling late winner against Everton, running the length of the pitch to slot home.

Rooney, a former Manchester United star, believes Dowman's achievement deserves praise. “Let him enjoy it, it's a big achievement,” he'd likely say. Dowman's record-breaking goal secured a 2-0 win for Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal wants to keep Lyle Dowman humble, but also give him space to develop, said Rooney, who's no stranger to early success himself, having scored for Everton against Arsenal back in 2002 at just 16 years and 360 days old.

“Let him enjoy it and go and express himself,” the former England forward said on BBC's 'The Wayne Rooney ‌Show'.

“Mikel Arteta, some of the senior players in the Arsenal squad, will not let him get ahead of himself. But I think you have to enjoy it as well.

“So when we've got a young lad like that coming through as a 16-year-old, he's clearly got a ‌lot of ability and you just hope he can go and fulfil that ‌potential.”

Arsenal, currently leading the Premier League with 70 points from 31 matches, will face Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday in the second leg of their Champions League tie, aiming to secure a spot in the quarterfinals after a 1-1 draw in the first leg.

Mikel Arteta's side will be without captain Martin Odegaard and defender Jurrien Timber, who are both injured. However, forward Leandro Trossard has been declared fit. Leverkusen, on the other hand, will be missing several players, including Mark Flekken, Loic Bade, and Arthur, due to injuries.
