The Kansas City Chiefs have acquired quarterback Justin Fields from the New York Jets in exchange for a 2027 sixth-round pick. This move comes as the Chiefs look to bolster their quarterback depth, especially with Patrick Mahomes recovering from a torn ACL.

The trade makes sense for both teams, as the Jets had already acquired Geno Smith, making Fields expendable. The Chiefs get a veteran quarterback with starting experience and elite mobility, who can provide valuable depth behind Mahomes. Fields will reportedly earn $3 million of his $10 million guaranteed salary, with the Jets covering the remaining $7 million.

Justin Fields, the 27-year-old quarterback, had a solid season with the Jets, starting nine games and racking up 1,642 total yards, with 383 of those coming from rushing. He scored 11 total touchdowns, four of which were rushing, but also had four fumbles and one interception. As a six-year veteran, Fields has one year left on his contract and is slated to earn $3 million this upcoming season.

Justin Fields is moving to his third team in three years, joining the Kansas City Chiefs after stints with the Chicago Bears and Pittsburgh Steelers. He was drafted 11th overall by the Bears in 2021 but hasn't quite lived up to expectations, struggling to establish himself as a consistent starter.

Fields' time with the Steelers was marked by a quarterback battle with Russell Wilson, and he ultimately signed with the New York Jets in 2025, starting nine games before being traded to the Chiefs. His career stats include 9,039 passing yards, 52 touchdowns, and 2,892 rushing yards
