Vini Jr. brace sends Real Madrid past Atletico

Real Madrid comeback 3-2 win over Atletico Madrid in LaLiga thriller. Five-goal Madrid derby ends in Real victory, Vini Jr. shines.

Vinicius Junior scores twice as Real Madrid beat Atletico 3-2...

Vinicius Junior scored a brace, ending his LaLiga goal drought against Atletico Madrid, as Real Madrid came from behind to beat their city rivals 3-2 in a thrilling match at the Bernabéu. The Brazilian forward finally got the better of Los Blancos' arch-rivals at the 13th attempt.

It was a night of contrasting emotions on the touchline, with Atletico boss Diego Simeone as animated as ever in his 50th Madrid derby, while his opposite number, Alvaro Arbeloa, cut a more relaxed figure as he led Real Madrid for the first time in this fixture.

Real Madrid's strong start had Atletico Madrid's coach, Diego Simeone, looking calm, with Dani Carvajal and Federico Valverde creating early chances. Carvajal's shot was saved by Juan Musso, while Valverde's effort hit the post in the opening 10 minutes.

Atletico Madrid also had a chance, with Marcos Llorente finding space inside the box and forcing a great save from Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin, who was making just his fourth start of the season due to Thibaut Courtois' injury.

Real Madrid looked set to take control, but Atletico Madrid struck a blow that silenced the Bernabéu crowd just before half-time. A low cross from Matteo Ruggeri found its way to Ademola Lookman, who scored his fifth goal for the club since joining last month, putting the visitors ahead.

Atletico had opened the scoring for the 24th time in LaLiga this season, but Real Madrid almost leveled when Aurélien Tchouaméni's header flew just wide. The hosts were looking for an equalizer, and they eventually got it.

Atletico Madrid tried to hold on, but the second half was a different story. Just 10 minutes in, they conceded a penalty after David Hancko tripped Brahim Diaz, and Vinicius Junior sent Musso the wrong way to equalize.

Then, things got worse for Atletico - Jose Maria Gimenez gave the ball away in his own box, and Federico Valverde pounced, scoring his sixth goal in five matches to give Real Madrid the lead. The game was turning in Real's favor.

Atletico Madrid's lead was short-lived, as Nahuel Molina scored a stunning goal from 25 yards, sending the ball into the top corner and giving Atleti a 2-1 lead. Molina's goal was his second in as many LaLiga games, and it looked like Atletico would run away with the match.

But Real Madrid responded quickly, with Vinicius Junior scoring a spectacular equalizer. Vini Jr. cut inside and curled the ball into the far corner from the edge of the box, leaving the goalkeeper no chance. The game was on fire.

Atletico Madrid's hopes of extending their unbeaten streak against Real Madrid were dashed as they fell short 3-2 in a thrilling derby match. Alexander Sørloth had a late header saved, but it wasn't enough to secure an equalizer for Atleti. The loss keeps them fourth in the table, while Real Madrid's win closes the gap to leaders Barcelona to just four points.
