Kouame battles cramps, physio, and Svajda to claim historic win...
Kouame, 17, has been making waves in French tennis, and he just notched his first ATP Tour win in Miami! He battled past Zachary Svajda in three sets, exhausted but ecstatic.
The young Frenchman was given a wildcard into the Miami Masters 1000 main draw, and he made it count, beating Svajda (ranked in top 100) in a grueling match. Next up, he'll face the winner of Medvedev-Djere.
Kouame started off nervously, but he managed to settle in and hold his serve, even getting a love game. Svajda, on the other hand, began to struggle, and Kouame seized the opportunity to break in the fifth game.
As Kouame tried to consolidate his lead, he tightened up a bit, missing some first serves and facing a break point. But he stayed focused and capitalized on Svajda's mistakes to stay ahead.
Svajda broke back to 4-4, and suddenly Kouame was fighting to stay in the set. He responded by holding serve to love, but his first serve was still off, and Svajda took the set in the second attempt.
Kouame was on the ropes, but he dug deep and avoided collapse. He fired aces to stay alive and bravely held serve in the eighth game, despite being down 0-40 and looking exhausted. The 17-year-old was putting everything into this match.
Svajda gifted Kouame the break with a flurry of unforced errors, and the Frenchman seized the opportunity. After a physio visit had raised concerns, Kouame served out the set with a love game, fueled by a sudden burst of energy.
The 17-year-old had found a second wind, and it was clear he wasn't going down without a fight.
Kouame made a stunning comeback from the brink, breaking Svajda at the start of the third set after a locker room visit. Despite looking exhausted, he was solid on serve and conserved energy on Svajda's games.

Kouame was hanging on by a thread, relying on his serve to stay in the match. The physio was his lifeline, helping him push through the pain of cramps and fatigue. With one last push, he served for the match against a struggling Svajda.
