Kolkata Knight Riders were left disappointed as all-rounder Cameron Green wasn't allowed to bowl in their season opener. Green, who was bought for a whopping 252 million rupees, is the most expensive overseas player in IPL history.
KRR skipper Ajinkya Rahane had a not-so-subtle jab at Cricket Australia after the loss, implying they're unhappy with the restrictions on Green.
Green made a quick impact at number three, scoring 18 off 10 balls (1 four, 1 six) before departing, as Kolkata posted 220 against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium.
The Kolkata bowlers, minus Green, struggled to contain Mumbai as they chased down 220 with five balls spare. When asked why Green didn't bowl, skipper Rahane shot back: “The question you need to ask Cricket Australia.”
Cricket Australia on Monday said Green has a lower back injury that “requires him to abstain from bowling for a short period.”
“Cameron is currently rebuilding his bowling loads in India with a view to return in around 10-12 days' time,” a spokesperson said.
“KKR has been communicated with and is fully aware of this information.”

Green's been handled carefully since his 2024 back surgery. He barely featured in the T20 World Cup, bowling just 7 balls, and only batted in Sheffield Shield's ninth round.
The Aussie all-rounder's workload has been a concern, and it seems Cricket Australia's restrictions are in place to protect him.
Speaking later in a post-match press conference, Rahane said: “It is challenging because our bowlers are injured, but it is an opportunity for other players to show up and make a name for themself.”
