“I'm glad I actually got the opportunity to decide what I wanted to do first. The guys put the ball in the right areas...”

West Indies has secured a spot in the T20 World Cup Super 8 stage after a convincing 9-wicket win over Nepal in Mumbai. Jason Holder's impressive 4-wicket haul and Shai Hope's unbeaten half-century paved the way for the victory. Chasing a modest target of 134, the Caribbeans cruised to victory with 28 balls to spare, thanks to Hope's 61 and Shimron Hetmyer's 46.

The West Indies bowlers had set the tone, restricting Nepal to 133/8, with Dipendra Singh Airee's 58 being the standout performance for the Nepalese. Holder's 4/27 was crucial in keeping Nepal's score in check.

Shai Hope (61*) and Shimron Hetmyer (46*) sealed a convincing win for the West Indies, with Hope leading the charge. Earlier, pace bowler Jason Holder set the tone, and Nepal's hopes were dashed.

Clearing the First Hurdle

“I'm very pleased. This is ‌what we set out to do and we got here. That's one step ‌and one hurdle that we've crossed and now on to the next stage,” Hope said.

“I'm glad I actually got the opportunity to decide what I wanted to do first. The guys put the ball in the right areas... It was difficult work for Nepal in the powerplay. Then it was about trying to limit the flow of runs and picking up wickets.

“It's crunch time now, back into the Super 8s.”

Four months after beating a weakened West Indies in Sharjah, Nepal looked to bounce back against the Caribbeans in Mumbai, aiming for their first Group C win after losses to England and Italy.

Nepal's Disastrous Start

Nepal's World Cup campaign hit a snag as they were asked to bat by West Indies and struggled from the get-go. Kushal Bhurtel and Rohit Paudel were quick to depart, followed by Aasif Sheikh's dismissal, leaving Nepal 22-3 in six overs.

Dipendra Singh Airee and Sompal Kami rescued Nepal's innings, with Airee smashing a half-century and Kami adding late fireworks. They managed to push Nepal to 133-8 in 20 overs.
