Panichelli had another chance, but Lyon's goalkeeper was equal to it. However, Strasbourg finally broke the deadlock just before half-time. Godo scored, applying the finishing touch to Diego Moreira's lovely chipped ball.
Strasbourg were deservedly in front at the break, having kept Lyon from creating any real danger in the final third. The hosts had been the more dominant side, and their lead looked like a fair reflection.
After the break, the game continued in a similar vein. Strasbourg's goalkeeper Dominik Greif made another crucial save to deny Moreira, but it wasn't enough to prevent Lyon from getting a goal. Moreira scored from distance, the ball taking a wicked deflection off Tanner Tessmann on the way into the net.
Lyon's struggles offensively continued, but they managed to pull one back with their first shot on target. Corentin Tolisso's lovely control and volley left Mike Penders with no chance, and Lyon were back in the game.
Lyon pushed hard after pulling the score back, but Strasbourg maintained their dominance. In the final 10 minutes, they had a golden opportunity to seal the win.
A VAR review awarded Strasbourg a penalty for Clinton Mata's foul on Samir El Mourabet. From 12 yards, Panichelli was clinical, burying the ball into the corner, beyond Greif's desperate dive.
Strasbourg's win was a deserved one, and it keeps their hopes of European football alive. They've now lost just one of their past seven home games in all competitions.
Lyon's incredible winning streak comes to an end, and this defeat is a big blow to their Ligue 1 title hopes. Despite the loss, they can still be proud of their impressive run.
