Frida Karlsson led Sweden to a 1-2 finish in the women's 10km freestyle cross-country ski race at the Milano Cortina Olympics, claiming her second gold medal of the Games. Ebba Andersson took the silver, while US skier Jessie Diggins secured the bronze, her first medal of these Olympics.

Karlsson dominated the race, finishing 46.6 seconds ahead of Andersson with a time of 22:49.2. Diggins, who had struggled with a rib injury, showed impressive resilience to claim third place. Sweden's success continues a streak of dominance in the sport, having swept the podium in the women's classic sprint earlier this week.

Sweden's Frida Karlsson and Ebba Andersson took gold and silver in the women's 10km freestyle cross-country skiing event at the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympics, marking another strong performance for Sweden in the sport. Karlsson finished 46.6 seconds ahead of Andersson, with American skier Jessie Diggins taking bronze.

This win continues Sweden's dominance in cross-country skiing at the Games, following their podium sweep in the women's classic sprint earlier this week. Karlsson, 26, had previously won a bronze medal in the women's relay at the 2022 Beijing Olympics and is now adding to her medal tally.

The strongest racers were strategically seeded in the middle of the women's 10km freestyle cross-country ski race, making the battle for silver and bronze medals a nail-biter. Ebba Andersson edged out Jessie Diggins by just a few seconds to claim silver, while Diggins settled for bronze.

Warmer-than-ideal temperatures, reaching around 7C, posed a challenge for skiers, prompting officials to salt the course to maintain snow compactness. This might have given earlier starters a slight edge. Some athletes even modified their uniforms, cutting off sleeves and legs to cope with the heat.
