Denmark's Curling team withdraws amid personal tragedy

Denmark's Madeleine Dupont reveals team struggled with focus after mother-in-law's heart attack in Milan.

“It's super hard to endure. They were just here to cheer and follow along and be great Danish fans...”

Denmark's skipper Madeleine Dupont says the team's defeat to the USA was affected by a personal tragedy - her mother-in-law suffered a heart attack while cheering them on in Italy. The team decided to withdraw after the seventh end, trailing 10-3, raising doubts about their chances in the remaining games.

With only two games left, Denmark's path to the semi-finals looks tough. Dupont's heartfelt explanation highlights the team's mental struggle amid this tough time.

Denmark's skipper Madeleine Dupont revealed that her team was “heavily mentally affected” by the news of her mother-in-law's heart attack in Milan. The team chose to withdraw from the game against the USA, trailing 10-3, citing the emotional toll of the situation.

“I think I've had a really tough week. It's hard to perform. I try to play curling when I'm playing curling. But it's incredibly difficult when your head is in all sorts of other places.”

“It's my mother-in-law, who collapsed with a heart attack here in Italy three days ago. She's in the hospital waiting to wake up,” she said.

Madeleine Dupont opened up about the team's struggle, saying it's been tough keeping focus on curling with her mother-in-law's heart attack weighing on her mind. The emotional toll has clearly impacted the team, leading to their tough loss against the USA.

“It's super hard to endure. They were just here to cheer and follow along and be great Danish fans. I am struggling to try to perform at the same time without constantly thinking about whether someone has written or called.”

“I want to be on the ice, but it just takes up an insane amount of space in my head. When things go a little wrong, like they did today, it's just hard to pull yourself up one hundred percent.”
