St Pauli earned a vital 2-1 win over Werder Bremen in a relegation six-pointer at the Millerntor-Stadion. The hosts extended their unbeaten Bundesliga home run to five matches, and the victory sees them leapfrog Bremen into 16th position.

Pauli dominated early on, with the best chance falling within the first 10 minutes. They took the lead, and it was looking like a comfortable win, but Bremen pushed hard and scored a late equalizer, making it 2-1 in the end.

Arkadiusz Pykra played Martijn Kaars into space, but his tame effort was easily saved by Mio Backhaus. Bremen's attack was kept at bay, and they struggled to trouble the opposition.

At the other end, Justin Nijnmah fired his attempt high and wide after breaking into a promising position. The opening was evenly matched, with both teams creating chances. Bremen started to grow in confidence despite their recent form, and Jens Stage had a golden opportunity to put his side in front.

The ball dropped into Jens Stage's path inside the box, but he lost composure and blazed it well wide of the right post. It was a great opportunity for Bremen to take the lead.

That was the best chance either side had in an uninspiring first half. It's perhaps no surprise, given they're two of the league's three lowest scorers this campaign.

The second half started with a bang, and the match sprang to life. Samuel Mbangula fired the game's first shot on target from range, setting the tone for an intense period.

Bremen's goalkeeper Backhaus made a huge error, letting Hauke Wahl's header squirm underneath his grasp as Pauli took the lead. But Bremen didn't lose confidence, and substitute Jovan Milosevic slammed the ball past a sea of bodies to equalize.

Pauli had struggled to score from open play this season, with just 11 goals in the Bundesliga before this match. But they found the net in the 70th minute, grabbing their 12th goal.

Joel Chima Fujita jinked inside and unleashed an unstoppable strike into the bottom left corner, scoring his first Bundesliga goal. That shot proved to be the winner, as Pauli held on for a 2-1 victory.

Bremen pushed hard for an equalizer, but Pauli's defense held strong to secure a crucial win in the relegation battle.

The result is a boost for Pauli, who have lost just two of their last six games, giving them new hope in their fight to avoid relegation. Bremen, on the other hand, remain in trouble, having failed to win any of their previous 13 games and now find themselves in the bottom two.
