Strasbourg have knocked Aberdeen out of the UEFA Europa Conference League, winning 1-0 and securing a place in the last 16. Aberdeen needed a win to stay in the competition, and they started strongly with a barrage of set pieces and crosses into the box.

The Pittodrie crowd was buzzing on the 13th minute when Mats Knoester poked the ball in from close range, but VAR intervened, ruling out the goal due to a handball. That was the turning point the visitors needed after a shaky start. They quickly created a chance of their own, with Ben Chilwell's run down the left flank ending with a shot straight at Dimitar Mitov.

The momentum shifted in Strasbourg's favour after that, and they took the lead on 34 minutes. A brilliant through ball from Sam Amo-Ameyaw found Martial Godo, who coolly slotted the ball into the far corner as Aberdeen's defence failed to react.

Knoester had a chance to equalise just before half-time with a strong header that was destined for the top corner, though a diving save from Mike Penders ensured the away side took their lead into the break.

The hosts had a great chance to level the game shortly after the break when Dyllan Lobban picked out Marko Lazetić with a cross, but he could only strike the ball against Penders from close range.

The visitors then threatened to double their lead shortly, but Mitov made two excellent fingertip saves to deny Godo. With their hopes of staying in the competition hanging by a thread, Mitov continued to give the home fans hope as he saved Ismaël Doukouré’s penalty with twenty minutes to go.

Despite those heroics, there was no way back into the game for the hosts as Les Bleu et Blanc held on comfortably.

Strasbourg top their group and are all but guaranteed a top-eight finish with one game to go, while Aberdeen languish with just two points from five games, extending their winless European streak to 16 matches.
