A South Korean woman was sentenced to four years in jail for extorting Heung-Min Son, the South Korean national team captain and former Tottenham Hotspur player, by claiming she was pregnant with his child. Yang, a woman in her 20s, demanded money from Son, threatening to make the alleged pregnancy public.
Yang received 300 million won ($205,000) from Son but tried to extort an additional 70 million won. She was indicted earlier this year and found guilty of extortion.
A man in his 40s was also indicted for conspiring with Yang in the extortion plot. The Seoul Central District Court handed down prison sentences to both Yang and her accomplice.

The court sentenced Yang to four years and her male accomplice to two years in jail. The court cited Son's fame and the defendants' exploitation of it, saying it caused him significant mental distress.
Yang didn't confirm Heung-Min Son as the father of her child, the court said. Son's representatives weren't available for comment.
Son's agency previously stated he knew Yang but denied any involvement, saying she fabricated materials and demanded money.
Attempts to confirm the sentences with the Seoul Central District Court were unsuccessful, as the public affairs judge didn't return phone calls. A court official declined to comment on the case.
The defendants' lawyers couldn't be reached for comment, as their contact information wasn't immediately available. Heung-Min Son recently transferred to LAFC from Tottenham Hotspur.
