EPL: Chelsea Held to Goalless Draw at Bournemouth

Bournemouth Vs Chelsea
Bournemouth deny Chelsea late chance

Chelsea settle for a point in a goalless draw with Bournemouth, extending their unbeaten away run.

Chelsea's fortunes changed quickly after the restart, with several attacks in quick succession...

VAR ruled out Bournemouth's early goal, and Chelsea had to settle for a point in a goalless draw. This was Chelsea's first PL blank of the season, but it extended their unbeaten away run to seven games (W5, D2).

Bournemouth had been winless in five games (D1, L4) but started strongly, putting Chelsea on the back foot. The Cherries' positive start had Chelsea struggling to get into the game.

Bournemouth fans were on their feet after just four minutes when Antoine Semenyo thought he'd scored, side-footing home a loose ball. However, the goal was ruled out due to Evanilson being marginally offside in the build-up. Villa recovered from the setback, but the game remained cagey, with chances few and far between, partly due to an injury to Liam Delap, who left the field after 32 minutes.

The Cherries still looked the likelier to break the first-half deadlock, and they came incredibly close to doing so 10 minutes before the break when Robert Sánchez touched Semenyo’s low strike into the path of Evanilson, who couldn’t direct on target while sliding in the six-yard box.

As HT arrived, there’s no doubt Andoni Iraola will have been the happier of the two managers, with Enzo Maresca’s side failing to muster a shot on target, and the hosts ending the half on the offensive.

Fortunately for the travelling support, it didn’t take long after the restart for Chelsea to show some purpose in attack, peppering former goalkeeper Đorđe Petrović’s goal with several attempts in quick succession, the best of which struck the post via the head of Alejandro Garnacho.

The game was hanging in the balance as the hour mark approached, yet an injury to Marcos Senesi, who had been exceptional to that point, threatened to upset the balance for Bournemouth.

Chelsea's fortunes changed quickly after the restart, with several attacks in quick succession. Alejandro Garnacho's header hit the post, and the game was starting to heat up. But just as it was, Bournemouth's Marcos Senesi, who had been solid, went down injured, threatening to upset their rhythm.

Chelsea's draw was a fair result, given their lack of spark upfront and shaky defense. They've failed to score in only one of 14 PL matches this season, but it was a bit of a struggle. Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo had a late strike saved by Robert Sánchez, and the Cherries could've won it.

The result leaves Bournemouth winless in eight PL head-to-heads (D4, L4) and in the bottom half of the table. Chelsea, on the other hand, trail leaders Arsenal by eight points, making their title aspirations look fanciful as they sit fourth.
