Women's Ballon d'Or winner Aitana Bonmati is set to undergo surgery on Tuesday after breaking her ankle during training with the Spanish national team. The Barcelona midfielder suffered the injury on Sunday and will be out for several weeks.


Bonmati's absence is a huge blow to Barcelona, who are currently top of the Liga F table. She's been instrumental in the team's success, scoring 13 goals in 24 appearances this season. Her injury is also a concern for Spain's upcoming Nations League fixtures.


Barcelona confirmed that Aitana Bonmati has a fracture of the fibula on her left ankle, saying, “Tests carried out on Monday... confirmed that she suffered a fracture... of the fibula on the left ankle.” The club announced she'll undergo surgery on Tuesday.




Bonmati faces an extended absence, with reports suggesting over three months out if surgery is needed. She'll miss Tuesday's Nations League final second leg against Germany and several club matches.


Aitana Bonmati's injury is a massive blow to Barcelona and Spain. She was instrumental in Spain's 0-0 draw against Germany in the Nations League final first leg on Friday.




Bonmati will miss crucial matches, including Barcelona's Champions League games against Benfica and Paris FC in December, the Spanish Super Cup in January, and several Liga F matches. Her absence will be deeply felt, given her impressive form this season.
