OB stunned league leaders AGF with a 1-0 win in the Danish Cup quarter-final first leg, thanks to a dubious penalty. AGF, currently top of the Danish Superliga, suffered one of their rare defeats, with Jann-Fiete Arp scoring the only goal from the spot.
The match was evenly contested, with chances at both ends, but AGF's Rasmus Carstensen missed two prime scoring opportunities. OB's Theo Sander kept a clean sheet, maintaining his streak in the cup competition.
The only goal came when German playmaker Jann-Fiete Arp scored from the spot after just under an hour of play.
OB's unbeaten run extends to six games, setting up a tricky trip to Aarhus on Sunday. AGF had chances to take the lead in a tight first half.
AGF full-back Rasmus Carstensen in particular, who has otherwise shown a goal-scoring ability of late, missed a great opportunity after just a few minutes.
Fifteen minutes later, Carstensen had another chance completely free in front of goal, but he kicked the ball straight at OB goalkeeper Theo Sander.
OB also had several chances in the first 45 minutes, but all of them missed the target.
No VAR meant the penalty decision went unchallenged. Jann-Fiete Arp fell “very lightly” in the box, but the ref awarded a penalty, which Arp converted.
Fiete Arp converted the penalty kick chipping the ball into the middle of the goal, while AGF goalkeeper Jesper Hansen threw himself to one side.
AGF tried to force an equalizer, but couldn't find a way past goalkeeper Theo Sander, who kept the goal clean for the third successive time in the cup competition.
The win extends OB's unbeaten run to six games, setting up a tricky trip to Aarhus on Sunday. AGF will look to bounce back, but OB's solid performance has given them a great chance to progress.
