Yamal's Stunning Goal Sparks Barca Fightback in Champions League
Barcelona's Lamine Yamal shines with a Messi-like goal, but Brugge fightback denies them victory.
“He has to be really focused on how he has to train, and also on the treatments and hopefully it (the pain) goes away...”
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick is pleased to see Lamine Yamal returning to form, but he's keeping a close eye on the young star's groin injury, which had kept him out for weeks. Flick's cautious approach was evident after Yamal's lively display helped Barca secure a 3-3 draw with Club Brugge in the Champions League.
Lamine Yamal, 18, has been impressive since returning to action, and his latest performance was no exception. He followed up his first LaLiga goal of the season on Sunday with a composed finish in Belgium, showcasing his skill and pace as he led Barcelona's fightback to earn a point.
The match was an exciting one, with Nicolo Tresoldi and Ferran Torres exchanging goals early on. Carlos Forbs restored Club Brugge's lead before halftime, but Lamine Yamal equalized just after the hour mark, beating the goalkeeper with a confident finish after a brilliant run through the defense.
“I'm happy that Lamine is back at this level. (But) we don't know what will happen tomorrow or next Sunday. The important thing is that he manages his situation, because it's not easy,” the German said.
“He has to be really focused on how he has to train, and also on the treatments and hopefully it (the pain) goes away.”
Lamine Yamal received the ball outside the penalty area and made a strong run, beating two defenders. He then played a one-two with Fermin Lopez, collecting Lopez's clever back-heel pass and slotting the ball home from close range.
“I try to do the best I can. The move went really quick and Fermin's left me with the ball with a nice flick and I finished it,” Yamal said after the game.
However, Brugge winger Forbs put the hosts ahead again in the 63rd minute, and later Lamine's other effort diverted in off Christos Tzolis to seal a 3-3 draw through an own goal.

Club Brugge reclaimed the lead through Forbs' goal in the 63rd minute, but Lamine Yamal's pressure ultimately paid off as Christos Tzolis inadvertently diverted the ball into his own net, securing a 3-3 draw for Barcelona.
Lamine added that speculation surrounding his groin injury, and suggestions it had affected his state of mind, had been overblown and fuelled by false reports.
Lamine Yamal downplayed the speculation surrounding his groin injury, stating that reports had been exaggerated and had wrongly suggested it had impacted his mental state.
“A lot has been said about my pubalgia, that I was sad, but it was all lies. I've been the same as always, very happy, focused on my work, trying to get back to training and play at this level, which is where I feel best and enjoy myself the most,” he said.
Lamine Yamal's impressive goal has drawn inevitable comparisons to Barcelona legend Lionel Messi, but the young star is keeping his feet on the ground, saying he's not getting caught up in the praise.
“Messi has scored thousands of goals like that. I have to make my own way and hope to score many more goals like that,” he added.
