Borussia Dortmund's struggles continued as they drew 3-3 with VfB Stuttgart, squandering a two-goal lead. The match was played amidst a subdued atmosphere, with fans protesting proposed security measures.

Dortmund's woes were evident, having gone seven competitive head-to-head matches without a win (D2, L5). Stuttgart struck late to deny Dortmund a win, with the home fans expressing their discontent with the proposed security measures.

The lack of noise perhaps contributed to a lacklustre start to proceedings until Maximilian Beier produced the game’s first shot in anger when he rifled a shot over the crossbar just before the half-hour mark.

Minutes later, the hosts were presented with a chance to open the scoring from the penalty spot after the referee ruled that Deniz Undav had bundled Nico Schlotterbeck over in the box. The dependable Emre Can stepped up to slot a low penalty out of Alexander Nubel’s reach to maintain his perfect record from the spot in the Bundesliga.

Dortmund extended their lead with Emre Can's first goal since March, followed by Maximilian Beier's clever tap-in after Alexander Nubel's parry. Stuttgart's hopes were briefly dashed, but they regrouped at halftime.

Stuttgart fought back strongly, with Deniz Undav scoring within two minutes of the restart to cut the deficit in half. The team's composure was shaken initially, but they regained momentum, setting the stage for a thrilling comeback.

Deniz Undav showcased his impressive skills as a centre-forward, holding off Emre Can to receive Bilal El Khannouss's looping header and hook an inventive volley over his shoulder, past the helpless Gregor Kobel. This goal marked Undav's second of the game, and he wasn't done yet.

The hosts thought they had regained their two-goal lead through Serhou Guirassy, but the former Stuttgart man was ruled offside, denying Dortmund a swift restoration of their advantage. Undav capitalized on this reprieve, scoring his second goal after Maximilian Mittelstadt headed a deep corner into the danger zone.

Stuttgart’s hard work appeared to be all for nothing when Karim Adeyemi netted late on after racing from his own half and neatly linking up with Beier.

However, Dortmund’s habit of giving up leads reared its ugly head in stoppage time when Undav turned his marker in the box to reverse the ball in at the near post, sealing his hat-trick and snatching a precious point to keep his fifth-placed side level on points with Dortmund in third spot.
