Amorim Backs Manchester United's Interests Amid Mainoo and Zirkzee Transfer Rumors
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim understands Kobbie Mainoo and Joshua Zirkzee's desire for regular football ahead of the World Cup...
“I want my players to be happy. I understand the frustration of some players, seeing that the World Cup is there, and I know...”
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim is aware that Kobbie Mainoo and Joshua Zirkzee might be frustrated with their lack of playing time, especially with the World Cup looming. Both players have struggled to get minutes, with Zirkzee playing just 82 minutes in the Premier League and Mainoo totaling 138 minutes since August.
Amorim understands their desire for regular football, but emphasizes that Manchester United's interests come first. The Portuguese coach is likely weighing his options for the January transfer window, considering the impact of his decisions on the team's performance.
Both players have fallen out of favour with their national teams, and British media reports suggest they're now looking to make a move in the January transfer window. This could be their chance to get back in the game and potentially play at the June 11th to July 19th World Cup in North America.
“I was a football player. I understand everything, and I want to help my players in every situation,” Amorim told reporters ahead of Monday's league match against Everton. This shows Amorim is keen on supporting his players and helping them get back on track.
“I want my players to be happy. I understand the frustration of some players, seeing that the World Cup is there, and I know what it means for the World Cup, but Manchester United comes first.
“So if I can help the club and the players, I will be happy, if not I have to think about the team. The club comes first, so we have to think about the club and the team, and then everything can happen.”
Kobbie Mainoo and Joshua Zirkzee might get more playing time at Manchester United soon, thanks to injuries and departures. Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo will be leaving for the Africa Cup of Nations, and Benjamin Sesko is currently sidelined with a knee injury.
Manager Ruben Amorim is optimistic about the squad's depth and believes academy players can fill the gaps. “Our academy is for this moment... we'll be ready,” he said.
With these changes, Mainoo and Zirkzee could see more action, especially since Mbeumo is United's top scorer with six goals this season.
