Watford FC Appoints Javi Gracia as Manager
Watford FC has appointed Javi Gracia as their new manager, bringing a wealth of experience to the club.
“We wish them every success in the future...”
Watford Football Club has announced the return of Javi Gracia as their new manager, replacing Paulo Pezzolano, who was relieved of his duties on Wednesday. Gracia, a seasoned coach from Navarre, Spain, will lead the team in their bid for promotion to the Premier League.
This will be Gracia's second spell at Watford, where he previously led the team to the FA Cup final in 2019. During his first tenure, he impressed the fans with his tactical acumen and ability to get the best out of his players. The 58-year-old Spanish coach has a wealth of experience in the English football league, having managed teams like Watford, Brighton, and Middlesbrough.
Gracia's immediate challenge will be to steady the ship and guide Watford through a crucial period in the Championship. The team currently sits 11th in the table, and Gracia will be tasked with building a winning mentality and improving the team's overall performance. With his experience and tactical expertise, fans have high hopes that he can lead the team to success.
He was there from January 2018 until September the following year, managing to keep them in the Premier League in both seasons.
However, a poor start to the 2019/20 campaign left him out of credit, and he was sacked.
A club statement on their website read: “Watford FC is delighted to confirm the return of Javi Gracia as head coach after deciding to part company with Paulo Pezzolano and his support staff, whom we sincerely thank for their efforts and commitment during their time in charge.
“We wish them every success in the future.”

Paulo Pezzolano, the Uruguayan coach, managed Watford FC for only 10 competitive games, leaving the team 11th in the Championship standings with 12 points from 9 matches. He was appointed on May 13, 2025, and his tenure was marked by a mixed start in the Championship, with 3 wins, 3 losses, and 3 draws. Pezzolano's reign is expected to be one of the shortest in Watford's history, and he's set to be replaced by Javi Gracia, who previously managed the team from January 2018 to September 2019.
