Napoli suffers 1-0 defeat at home to Torino

A first-half strike from Antonio Sanabria proved to be the deciding factor as Torino stunned Serie A leaders Napoli with a 1-0 victory. This win marked Torino's second of the season, while Napoli suffered their second defeat in three league matches.

Torino had shown glimpses of form in their previous match, a 3-3 draw with Lazio, scoring more goals in that one game than in their previous fixtures combined. They continued this momentum with Nikola Vlasic hitting the post from outside the box, showcasing their attacking intent. However, it was Sanabria's strike that ultimately secured the win for Torino.

In goal, Franco Israel made a crucial save after initially spilling a Kevin De Bruyne free-kick. The Belgian's follow-up shot curled in, but was deflected wide. Meanwhile, Giovanni Simeone volleyed over a promising chance for the hosts.

Just after the 30-minute mark, Simeone made history for Torino fans, scoring the team's first home goal of the campaign. He pounced on a loose ball, outsmarted the defenders, and skillfully rounded Vanja Milinkovic-Savic to score.

Torino could have doubled their lead just three minutes later, but Napoli's goalkeeper, Pierluigi Gollini, made a crucial intervention, putting off Marcus Holmgren Pedersen and thwarting a counter-attack. As halftime approached, Napoli dominated possession, but their attacks lacked punch, with Lorenzo Lucca's shot being easily blocked by Torino goalkeeper Franco Israel.

As the match entered the final 15 minutes, Torino's goal remained under siege. Despite Kevin De Bruyne and Matteo Politano's efforts, the hosts' defense held firm. When Eljif Elmas blasted a shot over the bar from a promising position, it seemed Torino would likely emerge victorious.

In the third minute of added time, a dramatic turn of events unfolded as a Politano effort hit the post, rebounded off Israel, and fell to Noa Lang, who tapped home what appeared to be a late equalizer. However, VAR intervened, ruling Lang offside, securing Torino's 1-0 victory. This loss marked Napoli's first three consecutive away defeats since early 2024.
