Rune retires with torn achilles tendon in Stockholm

Holger Rune's Stockholm Open campaign ends in injury as he retires with torn Achilles tendon. Rune's mother confirms torn Achilles tendon diagnosis after Stockholm Open withdrawal.

“They say they can see it with the naked eye...”

Aneke Rune revealed in a text message to Danish media outlets that medical staff are certain about the severity of the injury. “They are completely sure that it is a torn Achilles tendon, so it's of course very bad. Holger is, of course, completely devastated,” she wrote.

The injury is expected to keep Rune sidelined for several months, potentially ending his 2025 season. Humbert expressed sympathy for Rune, saying, “It was not the way I wanted to win. I'm super disappointed for Holger. I hope he is going to be okay.”

Aneke Rune, Holger's mother, confirmed that the medical team in Stockholm has assessed her son's injury and believes it's a torn Achilles tendon. “They say they can see it with the naked eye,” she wrote, indicating the severity of the injury.

The diagnosis suggests that Holger Rune could be ruled out for a significant period. According to his mother, the doctors estimate he'll be out for at least three to six months, which would mean he misses the rest of the season.
