Paris Saint-Germain were held to a 1-1 draw by Lille, with Ethan Mbappé scoring a late equalizer. Despite failing to win, PSG returned to the top of Ligue 1.

The draw marked the first time in four head-to-head matches that PSG didn't emerge victorious...

Paris Saint-Germain was held to a frustrating 1-1 draw by Lille, with the hosts snatching a late equalizer. Ethan Mbappé, the younger brother of Kylian Mbappé, scored the equalizer in the 85th minute, canceling out Nuno Mendes' stunning free-kick in the 66th minute.

The match was a closely contested one, with Lille's energetic press unsettling PSG early on. Despite fielding a youthful starting lineup featuring four teenagers, PSG managed to take the lead through Mendes' free-kick. However, the team's inability to seal the win exposed their inexperience, allowing Lille to capitalize on their mistakes and snatch a draw.

The draw means PSG returns to the top of Ligue 1, although they were denied a fourth consecutive head-to-head win against Lille. Despite being short on numbers due to injuries, PSG put up a good fight, with Bradley Barcola causing problems for Lille's defense. However, it was Ethan Mbappé who stole the show with his late equalizer, drawing level for Lille and earning a point for his team.

In the initial stages, both teams displayed a solid understanding of possession, moving the ball effectively without creating significant scoring opportunities. The first real chance emerged midway through the first half when Olivier Giroud's header, although on target, was comfortably saved by Lucas Chevalier, Lille's goalkeeper and former player. Shortly after, Thomas Meunier's effort was blocked by Lucas Hernández and sent over the bar.

As the game progressed toward halftime, the pace picked up slightly. Bradley Barcola had a promising moment when a Nabil Bentaleb shot from distance was blocked by Lee Kang-in and rebounded to Barcola. However, with Lille's talented youngster Ayyoub Bouaddi closely marking him, Barcola's effort drifted wide, lacking the precision needed to trouble the opposition's defense.

Both Luis Enrique and Bruno Genesio were likely seeking more creativity from their teams, but neither coach made any substitutions at halftime. The game remained relatively stagnant until the second half, when Olivier Giroud attempted to inject some excitement with an acrobatic overhead kick from Romain Perraud's cross. Although the attempt wasn't successful, it showed the team's determination to create scoring opportunities.

The match saw some crucial defensive moments, including a notable save by Berke Özer. The Turkish goalkeeper, who had recently made headlines for saving three penalties in Lille's Europa League win against Roma, continued to showcase his skills. Özer made a remarkable stop, tipping away Bradley Barcola's curler, while earlier in the match, Nabil Bentaleb's effort was comfortably gathered by Lille's goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier.

Following the near-miss by Barcola, PSG coach Luis Enrique made strategic substitutions, introducing Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Achraf Hakimi into the game. The trio quickly made their presence felt, with Hakimi winning a free-kick and Mendes scoring a stunning goal from over 25 yards, finding the net with a beautiful strike that slightly brushed Ozer's fingertips.

Lille manager Bruno Genesio responded by introducing responded by introducing more attacking players, seeking to change the game's momentum. However, it was one of his starting players who had the next notable chance. Matias Fernandez-Pardo, after creating some space, had an opportunity to score but his shot went wide, leaving Lille to regroup and look for another scoring opportunity.

Lille managed to escape trouble when Berke Özer pushed over a scorching shot from Lee Kang-in. However, their luck eventually ran out when Ethan Mbappé, playing in front of his brother Kylian, capitalized on a Lee giveaway. Mbappé cut inside and beat Lucas Chevalier, securing a crucial point for Lille.

The late equalizer allowed Lille to end a run of consecutive defeats and finish the international break on a positive note. Meanwhile, PSG maintained their lead at the top of Ligue 1, holding a one-point advantage over Marseille. The draw denied PSG a fourth consecutive win against Lille, but they remain at the summit of the French league standings.
