Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta's celebration of going top of the Premier League was short-lived, as captain Martin Odegaard suffered another setback in the team's 2-0 win over West Ham. Odegaard, who had been in outstanding form, was forced off with a knee injury just 30 minutes into the game. This latest setback is a major blow to Arsenal, given Odegaard's crucial role in the team's success.

The Norwegian midfielder has been plagued by injuries this season, including a shoulder problem that forced him out of games against Leeds and Nottingham Forest. He had seemed to overcome the issue, delivering a man-of-the-match performance in Arsenal's Champions League win over Olympiacos. However, the knee injury against West Ham has raised new concerns about his fitness. Arteta revealed that Odegaard's knee is in a brace, and the extent of the injury will be determined after further assessment.

Odegaard's absence could be felt significantly in Arsenal's upcoming fixtures, including matches against Fulham, Atlético Madrid, Crystal Palace, and Brighton. Arteta will have to consider his options for the midfield role, potentially giving Martin Zubimendi more playing time. The team's injury woes show no signs of abating, with Declan Rice and Gabriel Jesus also being forced off with injuries in recent games.

The concerns over Martin Odegaard's fitness deepened during Arsenal's match against West Ham, as he was forced off the field just 30 minutes into the game. The Norwegian midfielder collided knees with West Ham's Crysencio Summerville, prompting him to grimace in pain and be substituted. This latest injury setback will likely raise further questions about Odegaard's durability and availability for Arsenal's upcoming fixtures.

“I think he had a clash, knee-to-knee, and immediately he was uncomfortable. I just spoke to him and he is not positive about it,” said Arteta, who revealed Odegaard was in a knee brace after the match.

“We have to wait and see the extent of the injury. We will have to find solutions, but obviously, he is our captain and is a player who gives us a completely different dimension with things that he can do, especially in the attack.

“Let's wait and hopefully it is not that bad.”

Mikel Arteta celebrated his 300th match in charge of Arsenal with a 2-0 win over West Ham, marking the occasion with a confident performance. Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka scored the goals, giving Arsenal a crucial victory that puts them a point clear of Liverpool, who suffered their third consecutive loss at Chelsea. The match saw Arsenal dominate, with Rice opening the scoring in the 38th minute and Saka sealing the win with a penalty in the 67th minute. Despite captain Martin Odegaard's early injury exit, Arsenal's depth and quality shone through, setting them up well for the international break.

“I want to thank everybody, especially my coaching staff who have been with me since day one and without them it's impossible, first of all, to do the job and secondly to enjoy it,” added Arteta.

“I wanted to celebrate it with a win, I've got it. Now we have an international break to enjoy it and use the time as well to prepare because what's coming in the next break is going to be really difficult again.”
