Kane Williamson to miss England T20Is, targets ODI return

New Zealand announces 14-member squad for England T20I series, with Kane Williamson ruled out due to minor medical issues.

“Kane had to overcome a minor medical issue in the past month, and we both agreed he needs some more...”

Kane Williamson won't be joining New Zealand's squad for the upcoming T20 series against England due to a minor medical issue. Coach Rob Walter stated that Williamson needs more time to recover and is expected to be fit for the ODI series against England and the subsequent West Indies tour.

Williamson had opted out of the T20 series against Australia and the Zimbabwe tour to focus on his commitments with Middlesex. His absence will be felt in the batting lineup, but Mitchell Santner will lead the team in his place. Santner has recovered from abdominal surgery and will be joined by all-rounder Rachin Ravindra, who has bounced back from a facial injury.

New Zealand's T20 squad for the England series includes top players like Devon Conway, Matt Henry, and Kyle Jamieson. The team will play three T20 matches against England, starting on October 18 in Christchurch, followed by matches on October 20 and 23 in Christchurch and Auckland, respectively. The ODI series is scheduled from October 26 to November 1.

“Kane had to overcome a minor medical issue in the past month, and we both agreed he needs some more time to get himself physically ready to return,” Walter said.

“He's obviously a world-class player and we're hoping these two weeks will ensure he's ready for the ODIs against England and the following tour by the West Indies.”

New Zealand will face England in a thrilling three-match T20I series, with matches scheduled at Hagley Oval in Christchurch on October 18 and 20, followed by the third match at Eden Park in Auckland on October 23. Unfortunately, fast bowler Ben Sears will miss the series due to a hamstring injury requiring surgery. The teams will also compete in a three-match ODI series from October 26 to November 1.

Mitchell Santner, New Zealand's white-ball captain, is back in the squad after recovering from abdominal surgery. His return is a significant boost to the team, given his exceptional leadership skills and ability to pick up wickets with his spin bowling. Santner will lead the team in the upcoming T20I series against England.

All-rounder Rachin Ravindra has also returned to the squad after missing the Australia series due to a facial injury. Ravindra's comeback is a welcome relief for New Zealand, as he brings a valuable combination of batting and spin bowling skills to the team. His return will provide depth and options to the team's lineup.

Jimmy Neesham has retained his spot in the squad after impressing against Australia, where he took 4 wickets for 26 runs in the third T20I. Neesham's performance earned him a place in the squad, and he will look to continue his good form against England. With his seam bowling skills, Neesham adds depth to New Zealand's bowling attack.

“It's great to have Mitch back,” said Walter.

“Alongside being our leader, he's one of the very best white-ball spinners in the world and his skills and experience will be a welcome addition.

“Likewise, it's nice to welcome back Rachin who was unlucky to miss out on Australia and I know is really excited for this series.”
