Danish Rugby Boosted with Rasmus Lauge's Return

Rasmus Lauge
Rasmus Lauge returns to Danish National Team

Rasmus Lauge rejoins the Danish national team after a lengthy absence, boosting their chances in the upcoming European Championship.

“It is great to be able to draw on his qualities with the prospect of an exciting final round at home...”

Rasmus Lauge is set to don the Danish jersey once again. The experienced handball player has made himself available for Nikolaj Jacobsen's squad ahead of a mini-tournament in Norway.

Lauge's return is a significant boost for the Danish national team. After taking time off to focus on his family, the pivot is ready to bring his expertise and passion back to the court. In February, Lauge welcomed a baby daughter who was born four months premature, and he's now eager to get back to action.

“It has, of course, been a hard few months for Rasmus and the family. But I am extremely happy that Rasmus still has both the desire and the energy to choose the national team.”

“It is great to be able to draw on his qualities with the prospect of an exciting final round at home for the European Championships,” says Nikolaj Jacobsen in a press release from the Danish Handball Federation.

Lauge's experience and skills will be invaluable for Denmark as they compete in the upcoming tournament. His absence has been felt, but with him back in the fold, the team can expect a significant uplift in performance and leadership.

The Denmark national handball team has announced a new squad featuring 15 familiar faces from the recent World Cup, including 34-year-old Lauge. The squad also includes newcomers Mads Hoxer and Lasse Moller, who bring valuable experience to the team.

Marcus Midtgaard, a talented young player from Skjern Handball, has also been included in the squad. Despite limited international experience, with only two A international matches under his belt, Midtgaard is set to face new challenges.

The Danish team will gather on October 27 before heading to Trondheim, Norway, for a four-team tournament. They will face the Netherlands, the Faroe Islands, and host nation Norway in the upcoming competition.

Here is the complete squad:

Goalkeepers: Emil Nielsen og Kevin Moller.

Wingers: Emil Jakobsen, Magnus Landin, Johan Hansen and Niclas Kirkelokke.

Linesmen: Magnus Saugstrup, Lukas Jorgensen, Simon Hald og Emil Bergholt.

Back players: Mathias Gidsel, Mads Hoxer, Simon Pytlick, Rasmus Lauge, Lasse Andersson, Thomas Arnoldsen, Lasse Moller og Marcus Midtgaard.
