Joao Fonseca claimed the biggest title of his young career, defeating Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 6-3, 6-4 in the final of the ATP 500 event in Basel. The 19-year-old Brazilian's victory marked a significant milestone, showcasing his growing prowess on the ATP Tour.

Fonseca, still a teenager, now boasts two Tour-level titles after adding Basel to his Buenos Aires win earlier this year. This triumph in Switzerland cements his status as one of the most promising young stars in tennis.

João Fonseca made history in Switzerland by becoming the second-youngest player to win an ATP 500 title, a feat that will catapult him into the top 30 rankings. The 19-year-old Brazilian's impressive victory will see him rise 18 spots to 28th in the world rankings.

Fonseca's triumph marks a remarkable milestone in his career. Having started the year ranked 145th, Fonseca has now climbed over 100 positions to break into the top 30. This achievement solidifies his position as one of Brazil's most promising young tennis players.

“It is crazy,” said Fonseca. “I want to thank my family and my coaches who helped me achieve this amazing effort.

“My parents just came from Brazil. They were coming to Paris and changed their flights and came here one hour before the match with my uncles. It is just amazing to have them here for the biggest title of my career.”

Fonseca took control from the outset, breaking Davidovich Fokina early in the first set and never relinquishing his advantage. The Brazilian's powerful serve and aggressive baseline game overwhelmed his opponent.

Fonseca replicated his success in the second set, breaking early once more to take a firm grip on the match. He sealed the win on his second match point, triumphing in just 1 hour and 26 minutes.

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina's quest for his first ATP title continues, with a fifth defeat in a final, including four this season. Meanwhile, Joao Fonseca will move on to compete in the Paris Masters, scheduled from October 27 to November 2.

The 19-year-old Brazilian Fonseca claimed victory in the Swiss Indoors Basel final, defeating Davidovich Fokina 6-3, 6-4. This win marks Fonseca's second ATP title, following his wins in Buenos Aires and Canberra earlier in the year.
