World number two Jannik Sinner skips Davis Cup Finals to focus on Australian Open title defense. Read more about his decision.
“It wasn't an easy decision, but after Turin, the goal is to get off on the right foot in Australia...”
Italy's Jannik Sinner has made the tough call to skip the Davis Cup Finals on home soil, opting to focus on defending his Australian Open title instead. Despite being instrumental in Italy's Davis Cup wins, Sinner feels prioritizing his Australian Open title defense is crucial.
The world number two has a packed schedule ahead, including the Vienna Open and the ATP Finals in Turin, where he'll face top players like Carlos Alcaraz. Sinner believes a week of preparation can make a significant difference in his performance, especially in a major tournament like the Australian Open.
“It wasn't an easy decision, but after Turin, the goal is to get off on the right foot in Australia,” Sinner told Sky Sport Italy. “It may not seem like it, but a week of preparation during that period can make all the difference.
“We won the Davis Cup in 2023 and 2024, and this time we decided this with my team.”

Following his win in Riyadh, Sinner will compete in the Vienna Open, a tournament he won in 2023. The Italian star is looking to add to his title collection, having had a successful year with wins at the Australian Open and Wimbledon.
“We are working hard on my serve. I am fortunate to be able to work continuously with the best team possible,” he said. “I now have some very important tournaments coming up, in Vienna, Paris and Turin.”
