Jamie Carragher Questions Mohamed Salah's Automatic Liverpool Spot

Liverpool's Salah dilemma, Carragher weighs in

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes Mohamed Salah shouldn't be an automatic starter in away games due to his current form.

“It has to be Isak and Wirtz because they've spent the money on them and their age profile compared to Salah...”

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes Mohamed Salah shouldn't be an automatic starter for the Reds in away games due to his current dip in form. This comes after Liverpool's fourth consecutive defeat, with Carragher suggesting that Salah's role should be re-evaluated, especially considering his seven-match drought without a non-penalty goal.

Carragher thinks Salah should always start at Anfield, where Liverpool tends to dominate and Salah often scores. However, in away games, he believes Liverpool needs Salah to contribute more defensively, and with his current form, it's not guaranteed he'll start. Carragher specifically mentioned that Salah might not start both of Liverpool's upcoming away games against Frankfurt in the Champions League and Brentford.

Carragher also thinks Liverpool manager Arne Slot should build the team around Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz, who have received significant investment. With Salah's current form and age profile, Carragher believes Isak and Wirtz are a better fit for the team's long-term goals. Liverpool is currently fourth in the league, trailing leaders Arsenal by four points.

Mohamed Salah's recent performance has raised concerns about his automatic spot in Liverpool's starting lineup. After squandering a golden opportunity to score in Liverpool's 2-1 defeat by Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes Salah shouldn't be an automatic starter, especially in away games.

“I don't think Salah should be like a Virgil van Dijk where it's like 'first name on the teamsheet',” Carragher told Sky Sports. “Liverpool have got two away games - in the Champions League at Frankfurt and then they go to Brentford. I don't think Salah should start both of those games.” Carragher's comments come after Salah's subpar performance against Manchester United, where he missed two big chances to score.

“He should always start at Anfield because Liverpool will be on top, around the edge of the box and more often than not he scores in those situations today.

“But I do think in the away games and helping your full-back, I don't think Salah should be starting every game right now, certainly away from home, with the form he's in.”

Liverpool's recent performance has been underwhelming, with the team suffering consecutive defeats in the league and Champions League. Despite investing heavily in the close-season transfer window, splashing out £446 million on new signings, the team hasn't shown the desired improvement.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes that manager Arne Slot should build the team around Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz, two of Liverpool's biggest signings this summer. Carragher's comments come after Liverpool's fourth consecutive defeat, which has raised concerns about the team's strategy and player selection.

Carragher's comments come as Liverpool sit fourth in the league with 15 points from eight matches, trailing leaders Arsenal by four points. The team's recent struggles have sparked debate about their strategy and player selection, with Carragher's comments adding fuel to the fire.
