Italian Football Club Juve Stabia Seized Amid Mafia Allegations

Italian second-tier soccer club SS Juve Stabia has been placed under judicial administration due to alleged mafia infiltration. The club, based in Castellammare di Stabia near Naples, is currently seventh in the Serie B league.
An investigation uncovered mafia-style influence over the club's economic activities by a local Camorra clan. Juve Stabia denies direct involvement, stating that allegations relate to external suppliers, and has pledged to cooperate with judicial administrators to sever ties with suspicious entities.
Extensive investigations have uncovered a system of mafia-style influence over Juve Stabia's economic activities, according to a joint statement by Naples prosecutors, police, and the national anti-mafia prosecutor. The statement reveals that the club's current owners “inherited longstanding economic relationships that were, from the outset, subject to mafia influence.”
The owners “failed to implement adequate control and prevention mechanisms in response” to these mafia influences, the statement added. This failure has led to the club being put under court control due to alleged mafia infiltration.
Brera Holdings, an Ireland-based company listed on Nasdaq, acquired a 52% stake in Italian Serie B football club Juve Stabia in June. This move is part of Brera's multi-club ownership strategy to expand its global portfolio of football teams.
Neither Juve Stabia nor Brera Holdings immediately responded to requests for comment regarding the allegations of mafia infiltration. The club stated that it would cooperate with judicial administrators to terminate any suspicious relationships and restore legality and transparency in management.
The D'Alessandro clan, linked to the Camorra crime group, allegedly controlled various aspects of Juve Stabia, including ticketing, catering, cleaning, healthcare, and travel services for the first team. According to Naples prosecutor Nicola Gratteri, the clan's influence was all-encompassing, with players focused solely on playing while the Camorra handled everything else.
The judicial administration allows Juve Stabia to continue its sporting activities under the supervision of court-appointed administrators. This measure aims to address the alleged mafia infiltration and restore transparency and legality in the club's management.

The judicial administration aims to restore legality and transparency in Juve Stabia's management, disrupting the mafia's influence and ensuring the club operates with autonomy, integrity, and compliance. This move seeks to break the mafia facilitation circuit that had taken hold.
This isn't an isolated case. Prosecutors in Calabria recently took similar action against third-tier club Crotone, part of a broader investigation into alleged organized crime infiltration in football. The efforts reflect a growing determination to tackle mafia influence in Italian football.
