AZ striker Mexx Meerdink has been ruled out of the Netherlands squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Malta and Finland due to a training injury. Meerdink, who received his maiden senior call-up, sustained the injury during Tuesday's training session at the KNVB's training camp in Zeist.

The 22-year-old forward had been in excellent form, scoring four goals and providing two assists in his last eight matches across all competitions. His performances earned him a spot in the Netherlands squad, but unfortunately, his injury will keep him sidelined for the upcoming fixtures.

Meerdink's absence puts additional pressure on the Netherlands' attacking lineup, with Memphis Depay and Wout Weghorst being considered for the striker positions. Depay's participation was uncertain due to passport issues in Brazil, but he's expected to join the team soon. Coach Ronald Koeman has decided not to call up a replacement for Meerdink, and the team will proceed with 23 players.

The Netherlands will face Malta on October 9th and Finland on October 12th. With Meerdink out, coach Koeman will need to strategize and make the most of his available players to secure positive results in these crucial World Cup qualifiers.

A young striker was set to make his Netherlands debut against Malta after Memphis Depay's unfortunate passport theft in Brazil prevented him from joining the team. However, it's unclear if the young striker will indeed feature, as no official replacement has been announced for Joshua Meerdink.

The Netherlands team is scheduled to play away against Malta on October 9th, at the TaQali National Stadium in Ta' Qali. They'll face a team that has struggled in their recent matches. Malta's last five games have yielded only two wins, while the Netherlands have dominated their opponents, winning seven of their last 15 games.
