South Africa's World Cup hopes suffered a setback after a 0-0 draw with Zimbabwe, but coach Hugo Broos remains confident in his team's chances.

“We are back mentally and that is very important. The (team’s) qualities didn’t disappear with the draw against Zimbabwe...”

South Africa head coach Hugo Broos remains optimistic about his team's chances of qualifying for the World Cup despite a disappointing 0-0 draw against Zimbabwe. The team faces a crucial match against Rwanda on Tuesday.

Broos expressed renewed confidence in his team's mentality and determination, stating that they have bounced back from the setback against Zimbabwe. “We are back mentally, and that is very important,” he said, emphasizing that his team will fight for victory against Rwanda.

Bafana Bafana's qualification hopes now hinge on a win against Rwanda and favorable results from other matches. Broos acknowledges the challenge but believes his team deserves a spot in the World Cup based on their performances. The team's fate lies partly in their own hands, and Broos is confident they can deliver under pressure.

Bafana Bafana, the 1996 African champions, now face a tough challenge against Rwanda's Amavubi. To secure a spot in the World Cup, they need to win and hope that group leaders Benin Republic slip up against Nigeria, another team in contention for the automatic qualification spot in Group C.

Coach Hugo Broos expressed confidence in his team's ability to bounce back from their setback against Zimbabwe. He emphasized that his players are fully focused on continuing their push for qualification, highlighting their determination to succeed in the World Cup qualifiers.

“We are back mentally and that is very important. The (team’s) qualities didn’t disappear with the draw against Zimbabwe,” he told the media per Safa website.

“It was mentally that we had to recover and turn the button. You can be sure that the button has been turned, and mentality, the team spirit and the belief is there again.

“This is another amazing thing about this team and after the uppercut we got on Friday, everyone can turn the button and focus on the next job in the shortest period of time.

“Therefore, I believe again and I’m confident that tomorrow we will fight for it again, and we will try to win the game, and we will have a big chance to win.”

South Africa's World Cup Ambition
Bafana Bafana is seeking to break a 15-year drought in the FIFA World Cup. Their last appearance was in 2010 when they hosted the tournament on home soil.

Previous World Cup Campaign
In the 2010 World Cup, South Africa was eliminated in the group stage, finishing third in a challenging group that included Mexico, Uruguay, and France.

The reigning best goalkeeper in Africa added, “We still believe that there's all to play for and we believe that we can make history.”

“You can feel and you can sense that inside the team and the players, the mindset is good. But like I said, of course we would have loved things to be different, but they are not.

“So, the boys know that we have to dig deep, we have to go again and just leave our all on the field (Tuesday) night.”
