Ange Postecoglou's future hangs in balance

Nottingham Forest manager Ange Postecoglou remains optimistic about turning his team's fortunes around despite suffering a 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United, further intensifying the pressure on him just three weeks into his tenure.

“What I have seen and felt in this period is that we are heading in the direction I want us to...”

Nottingham Forest manager Ange Postecoglou is undeterred by the mounting pressure after his team's 2-0 loss to Newcastle United. Despite the defeat, Postecoglou believes his team is heading in the right direction and that results will eventually follow. “It's a struggle, it's a fight, there's nothing wrong with that,” he said, expressing his confidence in turning things around.

Ange Postecoglou's first seven games in charge have been challenging, with no wins and increasing scrutiny from fans and critics alike. However, he remains focused on the long-term goal and is working to implement his unique playing style, often referred to as “Angeball.” This approach emphasizes high-intensity, attacking play, and dominating possession.

Goalkeeper Matz Sels has expressed his support for Postecoglou, highlighting the team's positive progress despite the lack of wins. “I think we've done well in all the games under the new manager,” Sels said, emphasizing the team's potential and the need to capitalize on scoring opportunities.

Postecoglou has identified areas that need improvement, particularly in dealing with key moments in games and set pieces. He believes that addressing these issues will be crucial in securing wins for his team. The international break will provide an opportunity for the team to work on these aspects and regroup before their next challenge.

“Nothing surprises me in football. We have gone through this period where it is three-and-a-half weeks since I've come in and things haven't gone the way we'd have loved, but it doesn't deter me,” the 60-year-old told Sky Sports.

“We have a couple of weeks of work with some of the lads in the international break, and we will turn the fortunes around.”

Nottingham Forest manager Ange Postecoglou remains undeterred by the pressure, despite his team's 2-0 loss to Newcastle United and a winless start to the season. With Forest sitting in the relegation zone, Postecoglou's future has been questioned, but he's standing firm. This isn't the first time Postecoglou has faced scrutiny; he was previously sacked by Tottenham Hotspur despite leading them to Europa League victory. Postecoglou revealed he knew his time at Tottenham was limited three to four months before his exit, but it didn't deter him from winning the Europa League title. Now, he's focused on turning Forest's fortunes around.

“We just have to get the results now, and we have two weeks to get it right. If people want to assess me three-and-a-half weeks in, there is nothing I can say that will change that," he said.

“What I have seen and felt in this period is that we are heading in the direction I want us to.

“The results will come - in the meantime, it is a struggle and a fight, and there is nothing wrong with that.”
