Newcastle United secured a crucial 2-1 win over Fulham at St. James' Park, thanks to a thrilling 90th-minute winner from captain Bruno Guimaraes. The Magpies' victory marked a much-needed three points for the home side.

Fulham's four-match losing streak in the top flight is their longest since April 2023. The visitors had a ferocious start, with Kenny Tete receiving a yellow card within the first few minutes. Despite Nick Woltemade's sliced effort hitting the left-hand post, Newcastle struggled to capitalize on their chances initially.

The match saw several intense moments, including a superb save from Bernd Leno to deny Sandro Tonali's effort and Jacob Murphy's goal that gave Newcastle an early lead. However, Sasa Lukic's well-taken goal equalized for Fulham in the second half, setting up a tense finish. In the end, Guimaraes' late strike sealed the win for Newcastle.

Newcastle stormed out of the blocks, with Bruno Guimaraes testing Bernd Leno from distance and Murphy unleashing a fierce, angled shot that rattled the post.

The hosts' pressure eventually paid off in the 18th minute, when Calvin Bassey's hesitation allowed Murphy to pounce and steal the ball, firing a low shot past Leno's reach and sending the Newcastle fans into raptures.

Fulham responded positively to going behind, pushing forward and creating chances. Sander Berge's shot from the edge of the box was parried by Nick Pope, falling to Adama Traore, whose cross-shot across the face of goal ultimately failed to trouble the Newcastle defense.

Newcastle had a golden opportunity to double their lead just before halftime when Anthony Gordon set Murphy free, but Bernd Leno made a crucial save to tip the ball out for a corner, denying Murphy the chance to score. The corner proved to be the last significant moment of the half.

The visitors needed a bright start to the half and Marco Silva brought on exciting young Brazilian forward, Kevin, tasked with finding an equaliser.

And just 10 minutes after the restart, the new arrival found Raul Jimenez with a cross and, after the Mexico international fired his strike off the crossbar, Cottagers midfielder Sasa Lukic headed in for a well-deserved equaliser.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe introduced a triple attacking change, hoping to spark an immediate response. However, as the match entered its final 15 minutes, Fulham appeared to be gaining momentum and looked the more likely team to score.

Despite their opponents' surge, Newcastle had the best chance to win it in the 85th minute when Kieran Trippier delivered an excellent cross to Joelinton, whose header flew just wide, hitting the side netting.

The drama continued as Sandro Tonali's effort was superbly saved by Nick Pope wasn't mentioned, instead it was Leno mentioned earlier and now here it is: Bernd Leno, keeping the scores level. However, the Magpies had the final say, as Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes slotted home a parried shot by William Osula in the 90th minute to seal a thrilling 2-1 win for the home side.

The win propels Newcastle to 11th place, while Fulham drop to 16th, precariously perched just three points above the relegation zone.
