Eddie Howe excited for Ross Wilson era
|
Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe provides injury update on Yoane Wissa ahead of Brighton match and shares excitement about new sporting director Ross Wilson.
“He had a couple of training sessions and trained well, but we didn't want to push him too early...”
This development is a boost for Howe ahead of the Premier League match against Brighton & Hove Albion on October 18, although Wissa is unlikely to be involved in the game. The 29-year-old's return to action has been eagerly anticipated by the Newcastle fans, who are looking forward to seeing him in action.
Wissa's injury occurred while he was playing for
DR Congo, and he has yet to make his debut for Newcastle. Despite the setback, the club remains confident that Wissa will make a successful return to the pitch and contribute to the team's success.
Ahead of Saturday's trip to Brighton, Howe said of Wissa: “We have seen him back on the grass for the first time which is great to see, it is now a case of stepping him up gradually.
“In terms of timelines, it is similar to what I've said - nothing has changed.”
He was also asked about
Jacob Ramsey's fitness, stating:
“He had a couple of training sessions and trained well, but we didn't want to push him too early. He has trained in the break and looks good. I am pleased with where he is currently.”
Crucial Encounter Ahead
Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe views Saturday's match against Brighton as crucial to their
Champions League qualification hopes, recalling the intense draw between the two teams last season.
He said, “When you look back now, that point at the time was a frustrating one for us but it turned out to be really valuable.
“Brighton are a team we always have tough games against and they are really well managed and have some good players.”
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe expressed his delight in having England internationals
Dan Burn and
Anthony Gordon in his squad, praising their contributions to the team.
On Burn, he said: “I think Dan will do anything for the team. Whatever the team needs, Dan will do his best to deliver it. It's a big change, the physical demands of playing at left-back is a big shift.
“There's a slight adjustment to training and the outputs you give but he is doing really well there.”
And on Gordon, he also stated: “He has had a good start to the season if you take away the red card and three-game ban.
“He started the season in the centre forward role and did well. His performances have been good, and he carried that form into England and did really well.”
New Era for Newcastle: Ross Wilson Joins as Sporting Director
Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has welcomed
Ross Wilson to the club, following Wilson's appointment as sporting director. Wilson, who joined from
Nottingham Forest, brings a wealth of experience to his new role, and Howe is looking forward to working with him to drive the club forward.
He said, “I have known Ross for a number of years but it is a fleeting hello and you don't get to know them with any depth. He has had various jobs and done really well and it will be interesting to see how our relationship develops.
“First impressions are good, he has fitted in well with the players and staff and he seems a positive person.”
Eddie Howe revealed he had some input in Ross Wilson's appointment as Newcastle's new sporting director, indicating a collaborative approach in the hiring process.
He continued: “I wasn't totally away from the process, but I wasn't heavily involved in it. I back Ross' appointment and hope we can work really well together. It's such a big organisation that you need strong leadership through the football club.
“There's so much to do, contract lengths, transfers, there's so much to do, I can't be across all of it. We need to make sure we recruit the right players and make sure we have the best systems in place across every level.”
“I always want that position filled. It's such an important position for long-term planning, you need someone who can do that away from the stress and emotion of the day-to-day. He and David are great appointments, and we need strong leadership from those positions.”
