Almaty Open Champion: Daniil Medvedev Wins First ATP Title in Over 2 Years
Daniil Medvedev wins Almaty Open, ending 882-day title drought. The Russian tennis star defeated Corentin Moutet 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 in the final.
“The last game was incredible, and I am happy to win the title...”
Daniil Medvedev marked a triumphant return to form, claiming his first ATP title in over two years at the Almaty Open. He defeated French opponent Corentin Moutet 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 in the final, showcasing his resilience and skill.
The victory in Almaty ended Medvedev's streak of six consecutive final losses, which included high-profile defeats at the US Open in 2023 and the Australian Open in 2024. This win not only boosts his confidence but also strengthens his position in the ATP rankings.
Daniil Medvedev's season got off to a rocky start. He was knocked out in the second round of the Australian Open and suffered early exits in the first round of the French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open.

However, Medvedev turned things around after the US Open. He parted ways with his old coaching team and joined forces with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke. This change seemed to spark his career, with Medvedev reaching the semifinals in Beijing and Shanghai.
Medvedev has now claimed his 21st ATP title, which will likely boost his chances of qualifying for the year-end ATP Finals. With this win, he jumped three places in the rankings to 12th, significantly closing the gap to eighth-place Lorenzo Musetti to just 875 points.

“It is great. I was not super happy with how I played in some moments of the match, but to win feels amazing,” said Medvedev.
“In the most important points I played good.”
Daniil Medvedev will head to the ATP 500 event in Vienna next week, aiming to further boost his ranking after his recent title win.
Medvedev took control of the match in the deciding set after a closely contested two sets. He broke Moutet's serve at 4-3, following four break point opportunities at 2-1, and sealed the victory by holding his serve.
“The last game was incredible, and I am happy to win the title,” said Medvedev.
“It continues my funny story of 21 titles in 21 different cities.”
