Lille has confirmed the signing of Indonesian international Calvin Verdonk from NEC Nijmegen, with the defender agreeing to a three-year contract. The 28-year-old Netherlands-born player will join Lille after a successful stint with NEC, where he played 165 games and reached the KNVB Beker final in 2024.

The transfer, finalized on deadline day, sees NEC Nijmegen receive a €3 million transfer fee for Verdonk, who has earned nine caps for Indonesia. Before joining NEC in 2022, Verdonk played for Portuguese side Famalicao. His signing strengthens Lille's defensive lineup.

After his final game for NEC, goalkeeper Jasper Verdonk reflected proudly on his time with the club, saying, “I've been through a lot: first, I played for NEC in the second tier, then I left for a while. I came back when NEC was promoted. Since then, NEC has only gone up, and now the club is doing well. The competition is still long, but I hope those guys will finish high in the league.”

Verdonk is set to join Lille, where he'll compete with French defender Romain Perraud for a spot in the starting lineup. Perraud joined Lille earlier this summer from Real Betis, setting up an intriguing battle for a key role in the team.
