Atalanta thrashed Torino 3-0 at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino, with Nikola Krstovic scoring a brace and Kamaldeen Sulemana contributing to the win. Torino goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi saved a penalty during the match, which coincided with Ademola Lookman's comeback for Atalanta. Lookman had been absent from the team due to a transfer saga involving Inter Milan.

Torino had shown some resilience recently, bouncing back from a 5-0 opening round defeat to Inter Milan. They held Fiorentina to a 0-0 draw and then secured a surprise 1-0 win away to Roma. Despite this, Atalanta's strong performance proved too much for them.

Atalanta manager Ivan Juric welcomed back Ademola Lookman to the squad after a tumultuous summer. Lookman had attempted to force a transfer to Inter Milan but ultimately returned to Atalanta. Charles De Ketelaere and Giorgio Scalvini joined the injury list following Atalanta's midweek 4-0 Champions League defeat to PSG. Other injured players include Gianluca Scamacca, Ederson, Sead Kolasinac, and Mitchel Bakker.

Things took a turn for the worse for Juric as Nicola Zalewski limped off within 10 minutes, clutching the back of his right thigh. Ex-Torino winger Raoul Bellanova replaced him. It got even worse when Isak Hien went down with a muscular issue, forcing another substitution and using up two slots in the opening half-hour

Atalanta took the lead when Lazar Samardzic made a run down the right and delivered a cross to Nikola Krstovic, who scored with a first-time shot from 12 yards. This marked Krstovic's first goal for the club since joining from Lecce.

Atalanta quickly added a second goal after a midfield break. Samardzic's shot hit the post, but Davide Zappacosta capitalized on the rebound, laying it off for Kamaldeen Sulemana, who scored his first goal for the club.

Torino's defense crumbled, giving away possession to Kristjan Asllani, who sparked a counter-attack. Kamaldeen Sulemana rolled the ball across from the left, allowing Nikola Krstovic to score an easy tap-in at the back post, doubling Atalanta's lead.

The match became one-way traffic, with Atalanta dominating possession. Sulemana hit the side-netting with a shot, while Giovanni Simeone attempted to rally his team with a long-range effort that skimmed the bar.

Giovanni Simeone put Marco Carnesecchi to the test with a shot, but Atalanta continued to threaten Torino's goal. Kamaldeen Sulemana's low-driven shot was denied by Franco Israel's impressive one-handed save, highlighting Atalanta's dominance.

Duvan Zapata marked his return to Serie A after nearly a year out with injury, forcing Carnesecchi into a save at the near post just a couple of minutes after his substitution. This showcased Zapata's skill and threat in the box.

Moments later, Saul Coco kicked the ball into the box, which was poorly defended, and Odilon Kossounou inadvertently deflected it with the back of his leg, resulting in a penalty for Torino. Duvan Zapata stepped up to take the penalty but Marco Carnesecchi saved it, marking his second penalty save of the week after a similar feat against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

Raoul Bellanova had a  thrilling moment against his former club, Torino, when he attempted a spectacular volley from Kamaldeen Sulemana's cross. Unfortunately, his effort skimmed the crossbar, narrowly missing the target.

Ademola Lookman returned to the pitch for Atalanta, coming off the bench for the final minutes of the match against Torino, marking his comeback after a tumultuous summer where he attempted to force a transfer to Inter Milan. This came as a welcome relief for Atalanta fans, who were eager to see the talented winger back in action. Lookman's substitution capped off a dominant performance by Atalanta, who secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Torino.
