Europe strengthened their grip on the Ryder Cup, extending their lead to 8.5-3.5 after a dominant 3-1 win in the morning foursomes session at Bethpage Black. This impressive performance marked a historic milestone, with Europe becoming the first team to win each of the first three sessions of a Ryder Cup on foreign soil.

The European duo of Tommy Fleetwood and Rory McIlroy, affectionately known as “Fleetwood Mac,” delivered a standout performance, defeating Collin Morikawa and Harris English 3&2. This win improved their career foursomes record to 4-0-0, showcasing their formidable partnership. Fleetwood and McIlroy's dominance was evident, with McIlroy holing a 20-foot birdie putt at the fifth hole to put Europe 2 UP.

Other Match Results:
  • Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton vs. Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay: Europe won 3&2, with Rahm and Hatton maintaining their unbeaten record in foursomes play.
  • Robert MacIntyre and Viktor Hovland vs. Russell Henley and Scottie Scheffler: Europe won 1 UP, with Hovland holing a crucial par putt to secure the win.
  • Bryson DeChambeau and Cameron Young vs. Matt Fitzpatrick and Ludvig Ã…berg: USA won 4&2, with DeChambeau and Young capitalizing on Europe's mistakes to claim their lone point.

Rory McIlroy emphasized the importance of focus during the Ryder Cup, saying, “You really just have to focus on the task at hand.” McIlroy had a notable exchange with course-side fans before the pair sealed their victory on the 16th hole, but he credited his partnership with making the challenge easier, adding, “You can stick with your partner and it makes it a little easier.”

Jon Rahm's impressive play was on display during his 3&2 win over Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay, highlighted by a sensational chip-in birdie on the eighth hole from a difficult position. Rahm's clutch shot helped him move ahead, and he ultimately secured the win alongside England's Tyrrell Hatton, who also won his match.

“It's an incredible, incredible moment,” said Rahm. “But there's still so much golf ahead that I didn't let myself get too high.”

Unbeaten Record

Rahm and Hatton extended their perfect career record in foursomes to 4-0-0, dominating Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay 3&2. Meanwhile, Bryson DeChambeau and Cameron Young provided a glimmer of hope for the US team, securing a 4&2 victory over Matt Fitzpatrick and Ludvig Ã…berg. This win marked redemption for DeChambeau, who had a winless day on Friday.

“For our country, it was just pedal to the metal,” said DeChambeau. “We just put the pressure on them all day.”

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler struggled to find his footing, losing his third consecutive match alongside Russell Henley. They fell 1 UP to Robert MacIntyre and Viktor Hovland, who sealed the win with a remarkable fringe putt on the 17th hole.

The US team had a strong start to the Ryder Cup, with the holders leading 5-1/2 to 2-1/2 on Friday. This impressive performance spoiled a planned visit by US President Donald Trump to the Long Island venue, setting the tone for a competitive tournament.
