PSG's Marquinhos Sidelined with Left Thigh Injury Ahead of Barcelona Clash
PSG captain Marquinhos sidelined for several weeks with a left thigh injury. Enrique plans to manage the team's growing injury list ahead of crucial matches against Auxerre and Barcelona.
“It's a shame for us because Marquinhos is our captain, but we have to be ready, and I think we are...”
PSG captain Marquinhos has been ruled out for several weeks due to a left quadriceps injury, according to the French club. The 31-year-old Brazilian defender, who has been with PSG since 2013 and boasts over 300 Ligue 1 appearances, suffered the injury during PSG's 1-0 loss at Olympique de Marseille on Monday. Marquinhos played the full 90 minutes in the match but apparently felt a little pain, prompting coach Luis Enrique to take precautions.
Marquinhos' absence will be felt significantly, especially with key players like Joao Neves, Desire Doue, and Ousmane Dembele already sidelined due to their own injuries. Neves, Doue, and Dembele are currently undergoing rehabilitation and won't feature in Saturday's Ligue 1 match against Auxerre. Marquinhos' injury means he'll miss PSG's Champions League away clash against FC Barcelona on October 1, with Illia Zabarnyi expected to fill in for the 31-year-old centre-back.

The Brazilian defender, who has been with PSG since 2013 and has made over 300 Ligue 1 appearances, is expected to be out for a few weeks.

Luis Enrique isn't concerned about the growing injury list, emphasizing that injuries are normal in football, especially at the top level. “It's football, it's competition, it's reality! You have to adapt. I'm not worried, that's football at the top level,” he said. PSG will face Auxerre in Ligue 1 on Saturday, followed by a crucial Champions League match against Barcelona next Wednesday.
“He told me he felt a little pain. Nothing important, but we just need to be attentive and not take any risk,” Luis Enrique told reporters on Friday.

PSG coach Luis Enrique remained calm about the injury situation, stating, “I'm not worried, that's football at the top level.” He acknowledged that injuries are a normal part of the game and expressed confidence in the team's ability to adapt.
“Football is a sport where injuries are normal because there's impact. It's an impact sport. It's normal to have muscle injuries, and we have to know how to manage that,” he added.
“We have plenty of players from the academy that can play.”
