In a surprising turn of events, AZ Alkmaar and PEC Zwolle shared the points in a 2-2 draw during their rescheduled Eredivisie match. The game was initially set for August 24 but was postponed to allow AZ extra rest before their UEFA Conference League qualifiers against Levski Sofia.
The home team, fresh from a thrilling 3-3 draw against league leaders Feyenoord, took the lead after 38 minutes. Teenage sensation Kees Smit scored his first Eredivisie goal with a stunning long-range shot, showcasing his talent and composure.
PEC Zwolle fought back, with striker Koen Kostons equalizing in the 44th minute. Despite dominating possession and creating numerous chances, AZ struggled to find the back of the net again until Weslley Patati gave them the lead in the 48th minute. However, Kostons struck again shortly after halftime, heading the ball past the goalkeeper to secure a point for PEC Zwolle.
The draw lifted AZ Alkmaar to fourth place in the standings, while PEC Zwolle climbed out of the relegation zone. AZ's unbeaten streak in the league continues, but PEC Zwolle's recent losing streak came to an end, giving them some much-needed breathing room.
PEC Zwolle's Koen Kostons scored a crucial goal in the 44th minute to get his team back on track. However, his efforts were soon undone by Brazilian winger Weslley Patati, who scored his first AZ goal in the 48th minute, giving the home side the lead just before halftime.

Kostons responded strongly after the break, scoring his second goal of the match shortly after the restart. He headed the ball past Rome-Jayden Owusu-Oduro from close range, equalizing for PEC Zwolle. Notably, this goal marked the only attempt PEC Zwolle managed in the second half.
Despite dominating the match and finishing with 18 attempts, AZ failed to capitalize on their chances and ended up drawing with PEC. The point was enough to propel AZ to the top 4, overtaking FC Groningen on goal difference.
The draw marked a much-needed point for PEC, who had lost their previous three matches. This result gave them some breathing room, creating a three-point gap between themselves and the teams in the danger zone, Volendam and Telstar.
