Find out how Novak Djokovic's participation in the Shanghai Masters could mark a turning point in his season.
Former world number one Novak Djokovic will play at the Shanghai Masters event next month, tournament organisers announced on Tuesday...
Novak Djokovic is set to play at the Shanghai Masters next month, marking his first tournament since the US Open. The 24-time Grand Slam champion hasn't played an official match since his semifinal loss to Carlos Alcaraz at the US Open earlier in September. Tournament organizers announced his participation on social media, sharing a video of the Serbian tennis star and stating, “He's back... Our 4-time champ will return to Shanghai this year.”
Djokovic's participation in the tournament is seen as a significant comeback step after a relatively quiet year. He has only committed to playing the ATP 250 event in Athens from November 2-8, and his participation in the Paris Masters and ATP Finals in Turin is yet to be confirmed.
Rafael Nadal, the 24-time Grand Slam champion, hasn't played an official match since losing to Carlos Alcaraz in the US Open semifinals. The 38-year-old's plans for the rest of the season remain unclear. Unlike previous years, Nadal has participated in fewer tournaments in 2025, fueling speculation about his future.
Nadal's schedule for 2025 includes various ATP Masters 1000 and ATP 500 series tournaments, such as:
- Monte-Carlo Masters
- Madrid Open
- Italian Open
- Rome Masters
His training regimen focuses on enhancing agility, endurance, and strategic gameplay, ensuring he stays competitive and dominant on the court.

Novak Djokovic has confirmed his participation in the ATP 250 event in Athens from November 2-8. However, his participation in the Paris Masters (October 27-November 2) and the ATP Finals in Turin (November 9-16) remains uncertain. Given Djokovic's history with the Shanghai tournament, having won it four times in 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2018, his upcoming appearance has generated significant interest.
Djokovic's recent performance has been impressive, despite losing to Carlos Alcaraz in the US Open semifinals. He's expressed determination to continue fighting and competing at the highest level, despite acknowledging the challenges posed by younger players like Jannik Sinner and Alcaraz
