Sweden's Ludvig Aberg is feeling a greater sense of belonging ahead of his second Ryder Cup appearance.

“The biggest thing that I take away from those couple days, and maybe especially that morning...”

Ludvig Aberg is feeling a greater sense of belonging ahead of his second Ryder Cup appearance. Two years ago, he made a dream debut, rewriting the record books. Aberg became the first player to compete in a Ryder Cup before appearing in a major championship. His performance alongside Viktor Hovland truly announced his arrival on golf's biggest stage.

Their 9&7 foursomes victory over Scottie Scheffler and Brooks Koepka in Rome was historic, marking the largest margin of victory for an 18-hole match in Ryder Cup history. The emphatic win left Scheffler in tears. Aberg's experience and growth will likely play a significant role in Europe's quest to retain the Ryder Cup.

“It's not something I think about,” world number 16 Aberg told reporters on Wednesday at Bethpage Black.

“Obviously that day, it was somewhat of a freak result and something that we didn't quite expect. But it was a cool experience that me and Viktor had.”

For Ludvig Aberg, the 9&7 foursomes win over Scottie Scheffler and Brooks Koepka in the 2023 Ryder Cup was more than just a record-breaking victory. It validated his place among golf's elite, proving he could compete with and beat top players despite being a rookie professional with limited experience against such high-profile opponents.

The win was particularly significant for Aberg, who had been selected as one of Luke Donald's captain's picks for the 2023 Ryder Cup less than four months into his professional career. Going into the match, Aberg had never met his opponents, Scheffler and Koepka, adding to the challenge. However, partnering with Viktor Hovland, Aberg's confidence and game sense helped them dominate the match.

The experience and confidence Aberg gained from this match have likely played a role in shaping his perspective and approach to the game. Now, as he prepares for his second Ryder Cup appearance, Aberg feels a greater sense of belonging among the world's best golfers.

“The biggest thing that I take away from those couple days, and maybe especially that morning, was just the validation for myself, that I'm able to do that,” said Aberg.

“Because obviously before I played in Rome, I hadn't even met those guys. I had never shaken their hands. I had never had a conversation with them.”

Aberg's Growth and Confidence

Ludvig Aberg is now a known quantity in the golf world, far removed from the unknown quantity he was two years ago. With a string of impressive performances in the 2025 season, including his second PGA Tour title and top-10 finishes at the Masters, Aberg exudes confidence ahead of the Ryder Cup. His historic 9&7 win over Scottie Scheffler and Brooks Koepka in the 2023 Ryder Cup has given him the assurance that he can compete with and beat the best players in the world.

Aberg's experience and success will be crucial for Europe's quest to retain the Ryder Cup and achieve their first road win since 2012. Partnering with his teammates, Aberg will look to make a significant impact at Bethpage Black. With his newfound confidence and experience, Aberg is poised to make a strong showing in the competition.

“For me to get there and to bring out a result like that was a big deal for me personally, to know that I'm able to beat those guys at times,” said Aberg.

“I'm able to compete and play good golf against them. That's the biggest thing that I take away.”
