Germany defeats Turkey 88-83 in the EuroBasket 2025 final, securing their second European title. Dennis Schroder named tournament MVP.

In an extremely tight game, the German national team beat Turkey to win their second Eurobasket title and their first since 1993...

Turkey started the game, spurred on by a mostly favourable crowd, by taking a 13-2 lead, enjoying full success from three-point range.

Germany coach Alex Mumbru called time-out and the Germans, led by Isaac Bonga, soon levelled the game 14-14. Germany then took the lead and entered the end of the first quarter with a two-point advantage (24-22).

Germany's potential became evident in the second quarter, led by Franz Wagner's effective counter-attacks. Wagner's performance was notable, as he scored 16 points before the break. Despite Germany's efforts, Turkey responded well, with Alperen Sengun taking charge and contributing significantly to his team's lead.

Turkey's strong play, led by Alperen Sengun and supported by Cedi Osman and Adem Bona, allowed them to build a six-point lead at half-time, with a score of 46-40. Sengun's outstanding performance earned him 15 points before the break, showcasing his skills and impact on the game. Turkey's dominant play in the first half set the stage for a competitive matchup.

The match between Turkey and Germany was neck and neck, with both teams displaying exceptional skill and determination. After the restart, Cedi Osman hit another three-pointer for Turkey. However, Germany responded strongly with five straight points from Isaac Bonga, evening out the score.

Alperen Sengun and Osman worked together to extend Turkey's lead, with both players successfully scoring from beyond 6.75 meters. Yet, Tristan da Silva and Johannes Thiemann stepped up for Germany, hitting crucial three-pointers to level the score once more. This intense back-and-forth showcased the competitive spirit of both teams.

As the game entered its final 10 minutes, Turkey held a slim 67-66 lead over Germany. The tension was palpable, with both teams fighting for every point. This set the stage for a thrilling conclusion, with the outcome hanging precariously in the balance.

Intense Final Quarter

The final quarter was a nail-biter, with both teams giving their all. Alperen Sengun's basket, combined with strong defensive play and a trademark three-pointer from Cedi Osman, gave Turkey a 5-0 run and a 72-66 lead. Despite Turkey's momentum, Germany stayed close, trailing by five points with just over five minutes left (76-71). However, the Germans didn't give up, with Andreas Obst and Isaac Bonga leading the charge. Bonga's fourth three-pointer of the game helped Germany take the lead (77-76). The momentum shifted back and forth, with Kenan Sipahi's three-pointer putting Turkey ahead, only for Franz Wagner to be fouled and Isaac Bonga to level the game with a powerful dunk.

Thrilling Conclusion

The final minutes were intense, with both teams fighting for victory. Shane Larkin's two free throws put Turkey ahead again, but Johannes Thiemann's three-pointer gave Germany the lead. Larkin responded with another score to make it 83-82, but Dennis Schroder countered, putting Germany up by one point (84-83). A crucial defensive play by Germany secured possession, and after a missed shot, Isaac Bonga grabbed the rebound. Schroder then sealed the win with two free throws after Alperen Sengun's last-second three-pointer attempt fell short. Germany celebrated their second EuroBasket title, finishing the tournament with a perfect 9-0 record.
