Mark Allen defeats Zhou Yuelong 9-8 in the English Open final, claiming his 12th ranking title and first since February 2024. Allen's victory marks a historic moment in professional snooker, with three consecutive ranking event finals going to a deciding frame.

Mark Allen made history by winning the English Open title, defeating Zhou Yuelong 9-8 in a thrilling final-frame decider that lasted over seven hours. Despite holding commanding leads of 6-2 and 7-3, Allen saw Zhou mount an incredible comeback, winning five consecutive frames to take an 8-7 advantage. However, Allen showcased his remarkable resilience and determination, taking the last two frames to secure his 12th ranking title and first since February 2024.


This victory marks a significant milestone for Allen, who had struggled with his form earlier in the season, slipping outside the world's top eight rankings. His win in Brentwood not only boosts his ranking but also guarantees him a spot at November's Champion of Champions. Allen's ability to win under pressure was evident throughout the tournament, where he secured deciding-frame victories in five consecutive rounds.




Reflecting on his win, Allen praised Zhou's determination, saying, “I felt for Zhou, he probably deserved that for the character he showed.” Allen's own character was on full display as he came from behind to win the title, demonstrating his growth as a player under coach Chris Henry's guidance With this win, Allen moves into joint 10th place on the all-time list of most decorated ranking event champions, alongside Shaun Murphy.



“I thought Zhou battled really hard in that second session, he played some good stuff,” Allen said afterwards.


“He put me under pressure. I missed a few balls and I was nervous. I missed a few that I shouldn’t have, but at 8-7 I suddenly switched on a bit.


“It's a really good trait to have. I don't want to keep relying on it, but I felt as good as any part of the match in those last few frames.


“But I feel for Zhou. He probably deserved that for the character he showed.”


Mark Allen had an incredible run in the tournament, battling through five intense matches that went to a final-set decider. The 27-year-old demonstrated his resilience and skill by overcoming tough opponents, including Stuart Bingham, Ding Junhui, Elliot Slessor, and Jak Jones. His victories showcased his ability to perform under pressure and seal wins in high-stakes situations.

Zhou Yuelong: Ultimately, Allen's consistency paid off as he defeated Zhou in the final, winning 9-8 in a thrilling decider.
