Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk scored a dramatic 92nd-minute header to secure a 3-2 victory for his side, which sent the Anfield crowd into frenzy. During the drama, however, Simeone clashed with the crowd and was shown a red card. 

Television cameras captured the 55-year-old gesturing angrily toward the crowd whilst Atletico’s club nutritionist, David Lagos, spat at home supporters. Now, as confirmed by The Athletic journalist James Pearce, he has been charged by UEFA. 

Liverpool has been charged by UEFA due to fan misconduct during their thrilling 3-2 win against Atlético Madrid. The charges stem from fans throwing objects and crowd disturbances. This incident follows a confrontation between Atlético manager Diego Simeone and Liverpool supporters, which led to Simeone's red card.

The charges against Liverpool could result in fines or more severe penalties, such as partial stadium closure, depending on the outcome of the disciplinary proceedings. UEFA will review the incidents and determine the punishments after hearing from both parties.
